How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
GiveDirectly gave me an opportunity to expand my farming dream as I was able to buy a cow for milking and use the milk for commercial use to increase income and save some for personal use.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has been on the forefront in ensuring that livelihoods are improved in the best possible way regardless of tribe or culture.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
This came as a warm welcome as I received KES 55000 from GiveDirectly. I was able to split up the amount in purchasing a milking cow worth KES 40000 and a further KES 5000 on getting chicken thereby enhancing my poultry and dairy farming skills. I was also able to get some new furniture for the house improving the look at KES 8000. The remaining balance of KES 2000 was spent on purchasing clothes for my children in addition to what they have.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had left my phone in the house and ferried cattle to a nearby river that beautiful morning. Upon my return, I checked my phone only to see the KES 55000 from GiveDirectly that we had been eagerly waiting for. I was very excited because I had never received such a lump sum in my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is buying a dairy cow whose daily income will help in school fees payment for my kids. I resorted to buying a dairy cow because it's a major source of income in our place given the long dry spells which usually affect crop farming. Initially, I used to milk two litres a day but now with an additional cow I get to 3litres a day. For all these, I and my family are happy and grateful because all our plans came to pass.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 40,000 of my transfer on a dairy cow as an addition to the one I had. This is because it's a long-term investment and will be a source of daily income for my family. I spent KES 5000 on my daughter's school fees and the rest was spent on clothing and food. I normally rely on my husband who's a commercial driver in the city for school fees and food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am a stay at home mum of three while my husband works in Nairobi as a driver and so I am left to take care of our home. I do subsistence farming and sell milk in order to supplement my husband. My plan is to add another cow that goes for KES 35000 in order to boost milk supply. I also intend to expand my poultry farming (buying more chicken and feeds) with KES 20000 of the transfer. I am so glad that with the transfer from GiveDirectly, I will actualize them.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning because I wake up energetic, prepare breakfast and my children for school and also get to plan on how my day will be.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have faced is matters finances. We depend mostly on my husband's job to cater for our needs. I wanted to do a course in teaching but I have not been able to do so because of the constraints that we face with finances. We spend the money that we get on family, buying food and paying school fees.
