How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My goal is to go to China and get clothes to then come and resell locally. My demographic would be just about all sexes and ages. It would be a business me and my wife could run together. Hopefully with that It would enable us to achieve my long awaited dream of bettering my children's lives and offering them opportunities that we didn't have in life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I would encourage GiveDirectly to keep up their amazing work of uplifting the less fortunate and that they grow in leaps and bounds so they can reach more people and transform their lives as well. GiveDirectly will eternally be in our hearts as a family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The funds from GiveDirectly allowed me to buy my own motor bike. I had always wanted one, a chance to make my own funds, on my own terms. Not long after that though, I got a job as a house agent, and employed someone to be ferrying people with my boda boda. My current job pays me KES. 6,000 per month, which coincidentally matches the fees arrears I had to pay at my kids school. I am a father of 2, with my eldest in Grade 2, as well as my second born and for whom I each pay KES. 600 per month for tuition fees at Mariani Primary School. The remainder of GiveDirectly transfers went to purchasing food for the family , to complement the maize that we grow and eat on our 4 acre land. GiveDirectly impact on our life was tremendous and I hope many other needy recipients get to enjoy the blessing that is GiveDirectly.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6 pm when I visited my mum in a neighboring village when I received a message on my phone. Upon confirmation, I was overwhelmed when I saw the figure KES 55000.00 in my account. This happiness was not only from receiving the transfer but also from seeing a such huge amount of money for the first time was a miracle to me.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I am glad that GiveDorectly has done well for me. Initially, I did not have a defined source of income but now I have plowing bulls that serve me as a source of income from GiveDirectly. In addition to that, I have a better sleeping place than before. I woke up fit in the morning but before getting the mattress, I used to wake up very tired. All this is because of GiveDirectly and if it were not for the organization I think I would have managed the bulls and the mattress anytime soon.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Since I had no source of income, I desired to get an income-generating activity to make me move. Looking at our area, I realized people lack plowing machinery during planting season. Considering that, I bought two plowing bulls for KES 40000.00 which I hire for money if someone wants to plow their farms. Thereafter, I bought a mattress for KES 10000.00 since I used to sleep on the floor. Buying the mattress was a good thing for me because I now sleep in a better place than I used to. I aim to buy a bed once I get the second transfer. for the remaining KES 4700.00, I used it to buy some food.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Raising two daughters all by myself is not a walk in the path after my wife separated. I now must make sure they are not late for school and all their needs are met. With my current financial status, I cannot support them fully. I can only afford food from the 2000 KES per day. My plan is to start livestock rearing as a source of income generation for school fee payments and to support other needs. A bull and a heifer can make this come true as they will produce.with 50000 KES this will be realised.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I wondered how my children would join school but I am happy that they were able and now continuing with their studies. Iam happy about this programme, I will be able to offset their school fees for at least one year.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Unsustainable source of income has been a thorn in the eye for many years. With the many systems in place, It is very hard to drive without a valid driving licence. plus the high prices of fuel it becomes hard to make ends meet. It is always very little to meet my family's needs.
