How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I established a livestock farming aim after making use of the second transfer as I had intended. I want to buy cattle, particularly goats. Because of the climate in our area, I decided to raise goats rather than cows. Cows cannot endure hard conditions, but goats can. This investment will help me support my family because goats are easily convertible into cash and have a ready market due to their lower cost than cows and sheep.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly, in my opinion, has been very effective in providing financial assistance to those who are most in need. It gave every one of us the confidence we needed to accomplish our long-term objectives. Additionally, I was given the go-ahead to choose my purchases based on my requirements and wants. I don't see anything that requires changing based on how the organization functions.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Fresh water was hard to come by and pricey. I used to have to walk quite a ways to get any water. I felt the need to apply for a water connection at my home as a result. Based on that, I purchased all the plumbing supplies, completed the fitting, and paid for the meter. Even though the water has not been fixed yet, this cost me $300. They will not take long, I am sure, and I will soon have running water in my house. As a result, traveling will be less expensive and burdensome. I am thankful that GiveDirectly gave me the ability to fix a fresh water tap at my residence. Then, as my three children's end-of-term exams drew closer, I paid a $100 arrear in school fees for them. In addition, I added a $70 stock to my shop's inventory and utilized the leftover money to buy some meals.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My friends approached me, beaming brightly. While I was wondering what was amusing them. One of them informed me that she had received funds from GiveDirectly. When I checked my phone, I saw a Mpesa message confirming the same. Words cannot express my immense joy and happiness. I knew it was the start of something wonderful in my life. I will be eternally grateful for the chance to better my life.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
One of most significant difference in my life has been the expansion of my business. This is because it was on the verge of collapsing before I received my transfer. Fortunately, we received the funds at the right time. Due to financial constraints, I was unable to boost it previously. I will be eternally grateful for the support that has vastly enhanced our financial status.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband is a masonry worker, and I run a small business. We have seven children in total. When I received my transfer, I decided to invest $300 in my business. I knew that this was the only way to multiply the money while also changing our lives. Second, because it was Christmas, I went to the market and spent the remaining money on clothing and food. The assistance I received from GiveDirectly empowered us financially by increasing our source of income.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I have two children who are at the University. One is at Pwani and the other one is at TUM university. Everyone is supposed to pay school fees of $750 per year. I rely on bursary and help from a wellwisher to pay school fees. I will use $ 1000 to pay school fees for my children. This will make them concentrate with their studies. I will also use $100 to buy clothes for the family. I last bought clothes three years back. Thanks to Give directly for their program.
What is the happiest part of your day?
On June 2022, I decided to go make charcoal after my business collapsed. I sold 32 bags of charcoal at $4 each and received a total of $128. That was the first time to receive such kind of money and for sure I felt happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am a businesswoman selling palm wine. This business is dependent on the weather condition. We have had three years without rain in the village. Coconut palms have gone dry it is hard to harvest wine. I stopped my business one year a go. Since then I have struggled in life. My family has gone without food for a while. The Source of a reliable income is the challenge I am facing.
