Yes I do have, before receiving the cash, I did live from hand to mouth with nothing to eat nor feed my kids. But as we are talking now I did buy a piece of land with the cash from give directly. This piece of land is my new gem. I am planning to use this land to grow maize, cassava and some vegetables. From this farm I will be able to store part of the maize for my own consumption and the rest I will sell and earn some cash from it. I will do the same with the other crops i.e. the cassava and vegetables. So with this project in mind I have some light about life and this is courtesy of the funds from Give Directly. Previously before I started receiving the cash I had a small kiosk selling little items and I also used to sell charcoal. The problem with the charcoal is that I did not have regular supply due to restrictions in timber cutting in the forest. The little I made from my kiosk was not able to feed me and my family. But through Give Directly I am now a proud owner of land that I am going to till and harvest food for my family and also sell some and earn something from it. To say the least feel I can look forward to life due to the new opportunities handed to me by give directly. It does well in helping the needy. It has helped in raising the living standards of many of us within the village. On what it does not do well,i see nothing give directly does everything well.

it was 10 AM when I was doing laundry then I heard a message tone from my mobile phone. Since I was not expecting to hear from anyone, I decided to proceed with the task I was handling. Before I could finish, I heard another vibration which made me curious ad decided to check the content. I did not be; I've what I saw, it was an Mpesa message from the Segovia Technology, I had finally recived my transfers. Due to the excitement that I had, I remember having to leave the cleaning and called all my family members so that I could share the great news.

The biggest difference in my daily is os that through the transfers, I managed to construct a very decent, spacious modern house. Previously, I used to sleep in a very small traditional house which was could not accommodate all my family seven members. I have been married for over thirty years and it has never been good all along. I never had privacy, I could host visitors, my children never had ample space to study at night becasue of the poor condition of the house. This was sometimes embarrassing and felt like losing my dignity. However, I had to undergo all these sorts of troubles because my spouse was the family breadwinner who depend on the odd temporary jobs( casual labourer) who earns KES 500 in a day. Therefore this was too little to cater to the family's basic needs like food and building a better house. I had to endure the stress because I did not have anywhere to rely upon to acquire the materials needed. I am now hopeful and happier after achieving this goal and there is no more stress in my life. We are all sheltering under one roof pecfully without having to worry about the harsh weather or even the security. I will forever be grateful to GiveDirectly for restoring the joy in our lives.

I spent a larger portion of my transfer on buying materials iron sheet at KES 26250, poles at KES 5250, nails and timber KES 1000. This was for the construction of a new house because the previous one was collapsing as a result of its weak walls and old grass thatched roof. With my seven family members, some had to seek shelter in our relative's houses every night. I also used KES 3000 of the money on paying the mason as his labour charge. In addition, I paid school fees (KES 1000) for my children who were about to sit for their exams. With the remaining amount, I am using it to buy enough foodstuff for my family and other household items like utensils which we were lacking before.
