How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the short term I would love to expand my shop and have it become a whole sale shop, catering to those buying goods in bulk to them go and sell at retail prices. In the long term, I'd love to start a hardware business, adjacent to my shop to sell goods.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Fulfilling recipients dreams! That's what I would say is GiveDirectly real shinning strength. The only way they can do better is by growing and reaching even more needy individuals and help make their dreams come true.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We managed to secure a rather nice motor cycle for my husband and he currently uses it to ply the boda boda trade. My husband currently manages it personally and on a good day makes between KES. 500 and KES. 1,000, thanks to GiveDirectly enabling us to purchase the bike. I also gave my niece KES. 20, 000 to open a salon in Kilifi, which I'm glad to say she has. Food and basic needs were also catered for by the transfers from GiveDirectly, which helped greatly to supplement the cereals I grow on our 3 acre farm for sustainable. With the remaining funds, I made sure to cater for my eldest kids' education fees of KES. 1,200 per term and catered for the other small needs my 2 year old needs. My general shop, where I sell everything from tooth paste to pencils, would not have allowed me to tackle all the projects I managed to and for that, GiveDirectly deserves all the praise.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 6a.m and I had just woken up and heard my phone ring.Upon checking it was a notification message from Givedirectly. When I checked, it was a message bearing the good news.We had already planned on how to spend with my spouse. We are thankful to God and Givedirectly for the support.

The biggest difference in my daily life is starting my own business. It had been a challenge in getting basic needs on a daily basis.I am grateful to Givedirectly for this support that has brought a lot of in our house.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After enrollment, we discussed with my husband on how to spend our first transfer.Since my husband had a motorcycle, we prioritized on doing service to it since he had stopped working for some months since it had broken down.We spent KES 10,000 in purchasing spare parts and repairing it.We are happy he has resumed his business and faring on well. With KES 30,000we spent in starting up a general shop business.I am so much happy since the business is growing fast and picking up and the results is seen from my profit margin weekly.I also spent KES 5,000 in obtained a mattress since the one we had was too old. With the remaining amount, we spent in buying other foodstuffs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means restarting my shop business. Two years ago I had a shop that was operating well till when I got an road accident. I lost my second born in that accident and used all my capital for medication because I was seriously injured. I had to close my business. After closure, the community has had rough time to find commodities they need since other shops are very far away. On has to walk 10km to find a shop. When I receive my money, I plan to start my shop business with a capital of KS 90000 and also use KES 20000 to prepare the room by buying the required furniture for a shop. I have enough market in the community.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My husband secured a job at the area member of parliament office in January 2022. It is a three months contract. The job revived the family happiness because we have an assurity of getting our meals every day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Since I closed my business, two years ago after I was involved in an accident, my family has gone without food for a long time. My husband is also jobless. This has forced us to take one meal per day. Lack of job is the challenge I currently face.
