Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was home with my husband and youngest child when we heard the SMS notification alert. We were so thrilled and waited for about a week to safely withdraw the money from a mobile money agent we trusted. My eldest son was a university graduate and had bought a spacious piece of land before he was murdered by unknown criminals. With the GD money we received, we were able to start the construction activities of the house we will be leaving in to honor our son's memory.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
There was a very big change since we received the first transfer. We could hardly afford food for our family and for the first time in her life, my youngest daughter ate rice all thanks to GD. Not only do I plan on completing the construction activities we started but I also plan on reviving the shop my deceased son had and let his sister take over to start making money. I whole heartedly thank GD for all of this.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We needed some food and some clothes when we first received the first transfer. We bought food worth 64 $, bought clothes for 55 $, hired construction workers for 35 $ and dedicated the rest of the first transfer to building the house. We live on a dangerus steep slope; building a house is not only what is best for my family but it is also a way of fulfilling our son's dream.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I will build a new house because we are in risk zone with $500, I will buy livestocks like a pig of $50, food of $100, saving $15 in EjoHeza program, and use the rest for buying matelas, clothes and shoes for my family
What is the happiest part of your day?
The government gave us electricity for free because we are in the first category of Ubudehe, My cow from the government gave birth last month.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
We have a small land to cultivate in order to get food at home, we always cultivate in others farm and we share equally the haverst, My child Ange has dropped out in 2019 when she was 17 years old.
