How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life currently is easier because I manage to easily pay rent on time. I used to default rent payment for some months because my source of income was insufficient and very unreliable. Currently, I use the proceeds from the small business I started when I received the transfer. acquiring skills will enable me to run the business in a more efficient way. I believe that the training is currently taking because I got money for paying fees is one life-changing factor that has been brought by GiveDirectly. I would, still be struggling with rent payment and food scarcity because of low income. I am so grateful that this aid came along and saved me.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
I do not have any new goal but to keep working on savings. I intend to completely myself out of poverty by starting a business. As soon as I complete the course, I will concentrate on running my business and doing it better than ever before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my most recent transfer on paying school fees and buying stock for my business. Paying school is one way that has completely changed my way of life. It had been a nasty struggle to make a living without any useful skills. The course I am taking is a promise to a better future. I know that being able to acquire the skills I need is only possible now because I have fully paid the required amount for me to attend the training.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different from how it would have been had I never received the transfer since I have been able to build a house for my mother. It had always been my prayer to do so but I had not managed due to the little income I usually get from my daily hustles. My sister had been sent back home because her school fees arrears had overwhelmed my mother from settling them. Because of this, I am now happy that I was able to pay them and my sister is now at school studying. Without GiveDirectly's help, this would not have been possible and I really thank God for sending GiveDirectly to us.
Do you have any new or additional goals for your life?
The additional goals in life that I didn't have before receiving the transfer is to expand my business. By doing so, I will have created a job opportunity for other youths who are desperately looking for jobs day and night. I will have also increased my daily income thus I will be able to cater for my children's education ans well as my family's needs without much struggle. I am also planning to join college so that I can pursue a course in beauty and cosmetology. With this, I will be able to open my own saloon and cosmetic shop which will act as my alternative source of income. This will help me earn more income and even save some money for my children's education.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I started building a house for my mother using my first transfers since the one she was living in was small and was in a bad state and the walls were threatening to fall anytime. When I received my recent transfers, I decided to spend part of it to buy some iron sheets for roofing. I also paid school fees for my sister who had been sent back home. I was not comfortable with the idea that I had some money yet she was staying at home due to lack of school fees. I saved the remaining amount so that I would use them collectively with my next transfer to expand my business. I believe that by doing so, I will be able to generate more income which I will in turn use to support my family's needs.

Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My new goal is to expand and boost my foodstuff business. I have been doing the business in a small bit and has really helped me well with my family needs. I believe when I invest more in the business, I will be able to earn more profits which will help me in solving my financial matters. I want to be financially stable and support my siblings for a better future.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my life now is that my mother has a comfortable house where she stays. The kind of a house she used to have is one of the reasons why we could not go home regularly to visit her. Anytime we went home, we would have to go and find a sleeping place at my neighbours which really caused a lot of disrespect between us and our neighbours. Right now if I go home, I feel very proud because we no longer have to find a sleeping place at our neighbours. We are independent just like them.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent my first transfer on paying school fees for my sister who in secondary school. She had stayed home for two weeks as we were looking for the money to pay for her fees balance. She was missing a lot in school as others were studying and I feared this would impact negatively on her performance. This is the reason why it was a priority to pay her fees. The rest of the transfer, I used in buying building materials such as nails and iron sheets which I gave my mother. She has used them building a new house though it is not yet fully completed. She has been staying in a grass thatched house and was too small for our family. The roof too was leaking and it a shame to my family.
Describe the moment when you started receiving transfers. How did you feel?
I was so surprised. I could not believe my eyes. I did not know I could receive such amount of money in my life as I was used to small amount from my foodstuff business.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
My plan is to educate my younger sister and my children who I live with. I also want to help my mom to expand her house by rebuilding the house and renovation. And lastly is to boost my existing business where I sell samosa and ground nuts by adding more stock and expanding my business.
Describe your biggest worry.
My top concern is unemployment because a lot of people are jobless within my house area and many people end up sleeping while they are ungry, homeless and without any hope. Daily sustenance needs especially in the house where you have children is the worst thing that happens in life especially when you have children who are looking after you. Lastly Housing because without shelter you can't survive outside in the street because of insecurity, cold and you cannot have a family.
What are your greatest ambitions?
My ambitions is to expand my business an make it a big one and a business where I am earnings enough money to support my family by providing food everyday, paying rent and educating my children in good school outside of mathare.

I wake up at 6:00am then I pray prepare for tea , then I take tea clean the house until 10:00am.l then carry my tools of work to the road side near my house I start preparing for samosas and ground nuts ready for sell. During lunch time I take my lunch at my house which is close to the place of work. Then head back to work until evening I then go back to my house prepare for food for my family and On my free time I do a general cleaning at my house.
