How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to improve my crop farming by enlarging my farm from 3 acres to 5 acres. Intend to hire labor to assist in clearing the bushes to make it possible to prepare it using a tractor. At the moment, I am growing crops mainly cassava and maize for our own consumption. The plan is to start growing vegetables like spinach and tomatoes for sale which will enable us to earn income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, Givedirectly did well in sending cash instead of material aid. Through the unconditional transfer, I was able to achieve a lot like boosting livestock farming and building a good house. I am very grateful for the transfer. With all these, I can confidently say there is nothing that it did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a farmer, and I had desired to improve my farming so that it may be sustainable. I invested KES 27,000 in my livestock farming by purchasing 5 goats and 2 sheep. This is a future investment that will support me whenever I face any financial challenge in the future. I also spent KES 10,000 to complete the construction of a two-roomed house for myself since the one I own earlier was old, grass-thatched structure that was about to collapse. Furthermore, I used KES 15,000 to complete the payment of the piece of land that we are currently living on and farming, for more than 10 years but we did not have full ownership over it.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had actually looking after my livestock when I noticed that the organizatuon had actually sent me the transfers. I was instantly filled with a sudden of euphoria just because I barely had any money on me and I was hardly expecting the funds that particular day to say the least, therefore it was definitely a pleasant surprise.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I honestly feel extremely grateful, particularly for the fact that I was finally able to finish renovating my house and now I can finally sleep in peace without worrying that my house could eventually fall off me. Apart from that, I am also glad that I could finally manage to acquire farm animals since I always wanted to grow my farm.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
For the longest time now, I wanted to renovate my house just because it is quite old and it was literally on the brink of collapsing which left Mr in dear every tu.e I went to bed because I was scared that one day it could end collapsing on me. Therefore when the transfers finally came through, I decided to seize the moment and ensure that I used the funds to purchase twenty pieces of iron sheet for KES 20,000 and one hundred and fifty pieces of timber for KES 15,000 so that I could finally fix my house. Afterwards I decided to buy farm animals which included three goats and a pair of sheep for KES 12,000 and KES 6, 000 respectively. As for what I was left with I decided to use on nutrition purposes for myself and my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I stay alone at the border of the village without any family, in a house without a door. Anyone can see my things while outside hence I feel insecure. I intend to build a three-roomed semi-permanent house and buy new beddings. I feel lonely in my house, this will be the best time to get my better half. I will use part of my transfer to pay a dowry for a lady of my choice. With the remaining amount, I will buy five goats as investments.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I rear goats in my compound as investments. Last week one of my goats delivery twins. This brought joy to my life knowing there is increase in my investments and a hope of a better tomorrow.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Being alone in my house has always challenged me. I graze goats as a full-time job but when I am away people steal for me because my house is unlockable. I can not buy expensive things thus being stagnant in life. I feel insecure in my house, I wish I could get a spouse who could be staying at home to take care of my property when I go to graze my goats.
