How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My main goal was to buy a dairy cow to feed my family. For the longest time, I have been struggling to get the money to buy milk for my family, but I am currently happy because the cow that I managed to buy with the transfers had been of help in terms of milk production. I believe in the future, the cow would give birth to offspring, and with the increase in number leading to an increase in the litres of milk produced, I would want to become one of the milk suppliers in the area.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is doing great in terms of providing us with financial support that helps to boost our lives. Previously, I did not have a cow, but currently, I do courtesy of GiveDiretly, something that had given me a piece of mind. In addition, everything is done perfectly and there is nothing to improve on.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The transfers that I received had been of great help. My greatest wish had always been to have a dairy cow because it had been quite hectic for me to buy milk on a daily basis considering the larger family that I have, and finally my dreams came true courtesy of GiveDirectly. With the recent transfers, I managed to buy a dairy cow worth $350, something that I was so grateful for. I also wanted to improve my house to have a new and better look and therefore with part of the transfers, I spent $100 on extending part of the house. With food and education as some of the most important necessities, I ensured that I paid the pending balance of $5 to my two children who are in Grades one and two respectively and also bought food for the family worth $5. GiveDirectly had brought me a long way and words would not express how happy and grateful I currently am .

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I remember very well that it was around 3:00 pm that day and I was at home with my children. I heard my phone ring and upon checking, it was a confirmation message from GiveDirectly that I had been sent a sum of $550. The amount of happiness in me was so immense. I shared the good news with my children who were at home with me and I also took some time to call my husband who was still away by that time. We later planned together as a family on how we were going to spend the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Clearing the debts owed to us for a piece of land that we are ready staying in was the biggest difference in our daily lives as a family. We had started leaving in fear and stress was gripping in as days went by. Even though the seller was not so hard on us, we always felt we should clear the debts and live in peace as a family. I fees so much at peace now that we have cleared this debt and we are even looking forward to buying our first dairy cow once we receive our second transfer. We could not buy any livestock before since we were living in a very small piece of land that would not allow us make such investments.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We spent $400 to clear a piece of land that we had earlier bought on credit terms and used the remaining amount of $150 to fix windows in my house and improve our house by putting up a verandah. We are so much at peace now that we have cleared the debts owed to us and which would have taken a little longer to clear had we not received the transfer from GiveDirectly. I normally do small scale farming to put food on the table for my family while my husband is a musician. Income from these sources is hardly enough to sustain the needs of our family and it is for this reason that we were unable to clear the debts owed to us. We are so grateful for the support we received from GiveDirectly and what it has done for us as a family.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
I would like to extend the size of land from the current 0.2 acres to at least 0.5 acres. This will cost me about $450 of the transfers and I believe it will change my life. The remaining $550 I will use to purchase a water tank and two dairy cows. The water tank will serve my family as well as provide water for the dairy cows. I hope with the dairy cows I shall be able to sell 10liters of milk daily which can earn $7 a day. I am now happy that I will no longer have to depend on my husband to provide for everything but I will also be contributing to the family's expenses. I am so grateful to you for empowering me.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happy that my children are in school and progressing well with their education. They have achieved great milestones in their education and I know they'll have a great future.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The main challenge that I am currently facing is the inadequate size of land that we have. We only have 0.2 acres of land and the house has taken half of it. The remaining part is too small, we cannot keep livestock or produce any crops for our consumption. This strains the income that my husband gets by working as a guitarist and he earns $10 a week only which is supposed to meet all the household needs. I wish I could have more land to enable me to keep livestock and cultivate some vegetables for our household. This will cut our daily expenditure by half and we shall be able to start saving for our children's education.
