Do you have any new or additional goals for your life for the next four months?
My goal is to grow a cabbage crop that I have established on a nursery bed. I expect to get about KES 80, 000 in the next four months when I sell the cabbage.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life in the last four months preceding the current transfer.
The biggest difference in my daily life is first of all the farming improvements that I made. I managed to increase the acreage of land that I cultivate maize, from half acre to one acre every season. I then established a Napier grass farm because I now had a cow to feed. I bought a heifer that made me to start thinking of how to get fodder. Overall, the change from doing very little on the farm is no translating to more income.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
In the next six months, I will have earned a hefty amount of money from selling cabbage that I am currently growing. I will be planting another crop, preferable beans. I have resorted to growing short-season crops but making sure that I practice crop rotation to ensure that I avoid disease and reap from my investments.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I have really improved especially in my appearance as an individual. I consider this to be the biggest difference in my daily life. Now I dress well and I believe I look nicer than before because of Give Directly funds that enabled me to buy new clothes. The clothes that I had were few and worn out; I would even be identified by them. I had 3 pairs but now I have more and do not need to do laundry daily. I am happy about this and more confident; people even commend me for the changes.
How do you expect your life to change in the next six months?
I expect my life to be better in the next few months. I will be earning an income from my farm since in the next five months I will be having my first harvest and my first income from its sale. I plan to buy a cow using proceeds from the farm. I will also have enough finances to meet the needs of the livestock. My economic level will not be the same - it will be higher.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
This is the first time in my life to plant a whole acre of land of maize. It would not have been possible had I not received GD funds because it requires a lot of funds to first to lease it, dig, then buy seedlings and fertilizer. We also currently have enough fodder for cattle unlike before when we had less fodder. Our livestock are well taken care of even if drought season was to check in, our livestock will be fine.
Do you have any new goals that you didn't have before receiving the transfer?
My new goal is to have more livestock because I have been taking care of my sister's livestock at home but I will have more of my own. I plan to use the next transfer to add another cow to the livestock. I also plan to plant potatoes for sale in a new farm that I will lease.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have faced in my life was in the year 2016 when I almost dropped out of school due to fees problem. I was sent for school fees and I stayed at home for over 2 months. I felt my dreams of completing my secondary education and joining a public university had been shuttered. That time I failed to sit for my end term exams. However, I thank God because I got relieved when my brother came to my rescue and paid all the pending balances.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up strong and healthy. This gives me much joy and hope for another great day ahead.
What are you planning to spend your transfer on?
I am planning to use part of my transfer in starting maize farming and potatoes farming business. I also have plans of joining college using the transfers later but within this year.
What is the achievement you are proudest of?
I am a form four student at Kisabei Secondary School. The last four years of my secondary school studies have not been that smooth. I have always worked hard with an aim of achieving good grades that will enable me join a public University. I have had to stay home for a number of days due to fee problem but my desire to get good grades has never died. I am optimistic that I will pass my form four exams and I consider this as one of my greatest achievements.
