How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My initial goal was to enroll back in my teaching course and complete my training. My husband has been supportive of my education until the other day when we both had financial issues that made it impossible for me to complete my fourth year, hence I dropped out in the third year. This has been my goal before I even received the funds from Give directly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give directly was very supportive, and I liked the way the village transformed in a short time. Different people with different visions and goals used financial support to change their lifestyles, which improved their living standards. However, feel like Give directly should have a program that supports young women who dropped from school because of unwanted pregnancy .
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent most of the recent transfer in building a three-roomed wooden house. I have been living in a one-roomed mud house with my husband for quite some time. All the money we both made from casual jobs in the village was drained from my education. The house was not in good condition and we have been forced to live in it because we could not afford to even repair the roof that was leaking during the heavy rains. Upon withdrawal, I spent KES 50,000 to build the new structure and used the rest of the amount on food. The house is almost complete and my husband is working on getting the windows and doors fixed as well as cementing the floor. I am excited will move into a new house before graduating from my teaching course.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was at home in the evening preparing to milk my cow when I received a text message that I had received money from Give Directly. This was one of the happiest moments of my life because it was the first time to receive such a huge amount of money at once. I shared the news with one of my brother's in-law, and he congratulated me for the money.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving my transfer is the pride I have knowing that soon I will achieve my dream of becoming a teacher. I did not know I would ever sit for the examinations because I could not raise the fee. Currently, I rely on my spouse, but he does not earn much. Whatever he gets from his casual work can barely feed our family. It will be my happiness to assist him in meeting the household needs.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am currently in college but I owed the institution some fee arrears which forced me to defer the final semester. When I received my first transfer I spent KES 35000 on clearing the fee arrears. Finally, I will be able to sit for my final examinations and graduate. I also did not have seats in my house, so I spent KES 10000 on decent seats. We could sit on the ground and borrow seats from neighbors whenever we had visitors but currently do not courtesy of the Give Directly transfers. The rest of the money I spent on both foodstuffs and clothing for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will enable me to build a new house because the one that I live in is my main house and at the same time the kitchen hence not comfortable to host guests. I also plan to buy a cow with this money for me to get milk for my family and sell some of the milk to my neighbors to supplement the money that I earn from teaching at a nearby school and use the rest to complete my school fees arrears that I still have.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I delivered a baby girl called Happiness in May. Having to nurse and see her every day has been my greatest source of happiness.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The major challenge that I am facing now is matters finance. I teach at a nearby school under the board of management and that means that the money that I earn is dictated by the board The money that I earn (KES 5000) per month is not enough to sustain us hence a challenge to us.
