How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Life is different than it would have been because I have an iron sheet roofed house and sleep on mattress. This wouldn't have happened because I used to sleep under a grass thatched house with very old small mattress.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has done well giving us money that has enabled people to build permanent houses, pay school fees, and buy food. There's nothing it hasn't done well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
My second transfer to buy iron sheets, bricks, cement, sand, pay labour in order to renovate my house.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my life is to see that I am living a healthy life now as I can afford to get the treatment and drugs that I need to continue with my dosage. Before getting this money, I was always worried on how I would raise money to pay off that debt and continue with the treatment. I am really happy that I got this money.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received my money, I felt so happy and relief knowing that I was going to pay off the debt I had got for my operation.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to pay a debt of Ugx 500000 that I had borrowed for my operation. I have used part of my transfer to buy some building materials such as two trips of bricks. I also bought some household items such as mattress, utensils, two hoes a school uniform and food to feed my family. I bought some medication for the operation that I had got.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money I will be able to build permanent iron-roofed house that will provide comfortable accomadation for my family members. I have been struggling to get money through farming for building iron-roofed house but all in vain, so this cash I will spend to raise a comfortable Iron-roofed house that can take many years without repair as compared to grass thatched which is costly to maintain.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My best time is in the evening when Iam sharing a meal with my family members , I feel happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack of land. Iam a very poor polygamous mother with a large family size. My spouse has since side lined my family members and he does not give equally share of properties like land, where I can cultivate. My familly is therefore lacks sufficient food to eat and we always have single meal a day, which is affecting my children's growth.
