How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to plant more animal feeds for my cows. I have three cows, I had two of them before I got the transfers. I thus bought one to add to the two when I got the first transfer. I have feeds that I have grown in one part of my farm but they are no longer enough to feed all the cows. I plan to reduce the size of land where I usually plant maize so that I can get more space for planting the feeds.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly staff are very understanding and respectful. They always ask you if you have time to talk to them whenever they call for a survey. They are also patient whenever you ask them to call you at a later time. Other than that, they are also polite and kind in how they talk with the community members. I thus do not see anything that I would recommend them to change.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I decided to use the whole amount of the recent transfer on building another house for my family. I have already bought all the materials that are needed for the construction. I have bought iron sheets which cost me a total of KES 18000 and nails. I have also bought trees though I have not gotten enough, I am still sourcing for more. I have also set aside money for paying labor. I thus expect the construction work to commence next week. I decided to do so because we only have one small house. The space is thus not enough to accommodate the five of us. It has always been my wish to build another house but I did not have the money for achieving this dream. I usually depend on casual jobs to get money for buying food and paying school fees for my children. Sometimes casual jobs are not available and I am thus forced to plead with the school where my children are studying to be patient with me as I struggle to get money. I am thus so much grateful to GiveDirectly because they have enabled me to fulfill the dream of building another house, something I never thought I would achieve soon.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
All my neighbors had received the transfer day time. I wanted for for GiveDirectly to sent me the money until 2am when I heard a message notification from my phone. I knew it was actually the message I was waiting for. When I checked it out I felt so happy. At first I was worried because my neighbors had received theirs early that day. I went to withdrew the money the same day and used some to buy a dairy.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Purchasing a dairy cow is the biggest difference in my daily. I used to buy milk daily and this was so expensive for me. I do causal jobs in the village and small scale farming. I had always wiished to buy a dairy cow but I didn't had the money. When I received the transfer from GiveDirectly I felt so happy because I knew I would be able to buy a dairy cow. Currently I have d enough milk for my children and for the entire family. I no longer struggle so much on where to get the money. My children no longer missed to get the milk. I am so grateful for the support because GiveDirectly has changed our living standards. It had anabled us to work well and invest in other project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 43,000 to purchase a improved dairy cow with a calf. I used to buy milk daily and this was so costly for me. We had planned on this and immediately the money was sent I did exactly what was required. The rest of the money money was on food and clothes.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a good life for me and my family. I am a father of 6 and work as a herds man in a nearby village. I earn an average of KES.3,000 on a monthly basis. My ambition is to build a spacious house that can accommodate my family. Since my children are now growing I need to have privacy and respect.Givedirectly transfers is a prayer answered to our family. We are so greatful for this opportunity and my plan is to build a house at a cost of KES.80,000 this is inclusive with the labour. The remaining amount will go for buying food to my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Its barely a month now, when my boss whom i work for him gifted me with a heifer as a result of good work that I offer to him. Together with my family we really celebrated for it. This really motivated me to work well and continue to render good service to him.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
One of the challenges I am currently facing is financial constraints. The amount that I earn which is KES.3000 in amonth from being a herds man, has never been enough to sustain my family. We have in some occasions had to skip some meals as a result of financial constraints to buy food.
