How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I used part of my transfer to buy a dairy cow. I decided to invest in dairy farming to provide enough milk for my family since I have been buying milk for many years and it was costly since I did not have any source of income. I will also sell the surplus milk to cater to my family basic needs. I also used part of my transfer to buy high-quality maize and beans seedlings which I planted on my farm. The crops are doing so well and I expect to have a good harvest and will get enough food for my family and sell the surplus to earn money for supporting my family. Before I couldn't afford to buy quality seeds and its results were poor harvest which wouldn't sustain us to next season. This would force me to buy food for the family. I also bought three bags of maize for my family since I have been buying maize flour on a daily basis.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my Opinion, GiveDirectly gave us no conditions on what to spend the money on. With the unconditionality of the transfer residence spent on what they were lacking and what they have been aspiring to do without success due to lack of funds. I feel that after the first transfer GD should monitor how the first transfer was spent by visiting those who received the funds. Though most people spent in a good way a small percentage misuse the money and that they wouldn't have continued to receive their next transfer. This would help reduce the misuse of money amongst the recipients.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second transfer which GD sent it to me, I spent part it to buy building materials for constructing a better house. Now I am happy the house is almost done and we will soon move in. I then spent part of it to buy three sacks of maize since we had a food shortage and I had been buying in small quantities based on my daily income. The other amount I spent to purchase some clothes for all my family members. I lend a small amount to my brother and sister since they were not lucky to receive the transfer. Lastly, I bought some farm inputs which includes maize and beans seedlings.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life is so different now. We are happy and peaceful as a family. We have enough food and all that we need. Give Directly funds enabled me to own the cow which would have taken up to ten years to own. Pressing needs such as school fee (especially now that our children will be joining secondary school soon, a lot of funds will be needed) and food would have made it impossible to buy a cow at the moment, so I am grateful.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I received the transfer from Give Directly at around 4 pm at home and I was happy.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
Using Give Directly funds, I bought a cow worth 33000 KES , paid school fee 1000 KES, bean seedlings 3000 KES and the balance on food and clothes for my family.

What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of enough funds to help raise a happy family. We hardly had anything as a family and very often we could have family wrangles with my wife. It reached a point that we separated with my wife. She later went out to look for a job and the situation improved a bit.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon when I am done with the day's activities, this is the time that I can relax comfortably and have a good time with my family.
What does receiving this money mean to you?
We have always had plans of having a reliable dairy cow for the family. My wife has also been thinking about starting a poultry keeping business. All these plans have never come to reality as we have been struggling financially. Receiving this cash would enable us realize a good number of things that we have always wished for.
