How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is now different compared to when i didnt have this sum of money as my biggest callenge was that of not having a house fit for the whole household...But now I will have a completely new house with improved roof and better doors for protection. The other thing is that I now have better beddings as I have managed to purchase mattress and blankets...I also have enough food,,had it been in the past I could have sold some of My bags of maize just to find cash and other basic necessities..I'm so thankful for the program and may you continue don't the same to other villages..
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly provides a huge some of money in which we are given a choice on how to spend it For example, with my money I planned to use it in renovating my old house so that it can be in better shape...This is contrary to what other organisations do in the village as others just give us a small amount of money and then we are told on how to use it. Also, Givedirectly gave me a phone and a simcard which on my own, I could have not managed to buy it.. Furthermore, my living style has now changed..This is because I will be able to have better house meaning that I, together with my family will not be around in search of better shelter..
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used my second cash transfer to purchase 15 bags of cement which will be used to renovate my house interms of plastering and flooring it. I also used part of the money to purchase doors for the whole house since the house was incomplete..The remaining sum of money was used to purchase wires, windowframes and timber to improve the roof of my house..

What does receiving this money mean to you?
This money means that I will renovate my house. I am living in an incomplete building because I don't have enough money to buy iron sheets to finish roofing.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest only during the harvesting season because we have enough food to eat. Otherwise I am sad most of the times.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack of enough money to care for all the children and grandchildren I live with. I depend on casual labor and farming to make a living. It is only at the end of the year when I make money from selling sugarcane. I also build houses but I don't often find people who want to renovate or build new houses around here.
