How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Since my husband engaged in the livestock business, he has been able to have a reliable source of income. This has brought happiness in our family as we no longer lack basic items which we couldn't afford to buy before.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly brought some light in our village through these transfers. The enrolment was so transparent and majority of us benefited.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
The second transfers which we had received from Give Directly, we spent Kes 4000 to buy some paints for painting our house. The remaining amount KES 48000 we invested in livestock trading business which my husband had been engaging as a middleman. We saw an opportunity in it as he had more customers within our village and beyond. Since the inception of this business, he has been able to earn good profit which enables us to feed our family and met other family needs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Expanding my dairy project had always been my prayer but had not been able to due to financial constraints. Buying another dairy cow using my transfers is so far the biggest difference in my daily life. As a result of this, I have been able to start selling some milk to my neighbors. I am also optimistic that it will be calving soon thus an increase in milk production. I will be using the income from this project to pay my children's school fees and to cater for my family needs.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was so much thrilled the moment I saw the Mpesa message indicating that I had received money from GiveDirectly. I knew that my dream of adding a dairy cow would soon be realized.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I do not have a formal form of employment, therefore, I depend on farming to earn a living. I always work hard to improve my farming since this could stabilize my income. When I received my first transfer I spent KES 40000 to buy a dairy cow. I settled on this to improve my income through milk sales. I will be using money from the dairy project to pay school fees for my children. I used the remaining amount to buy three sacks of maize for household consumption. I decided to buy them in bulk so that it would relieve me of the cost of buying them in small quantities daily.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to start a small business.I have a disabled child and because of this I cannot do most of the farm work which my family depends on for food and other needs.I have been operating a posho mill business but the proceeds are so little and I have always wished that I could stock maize so that I can sell at the posho mill kiosk.With these money,I will be able to actualize this
What is the happiest part of your day?
From morning till late in the afternoon,I am always up and down with the daily chores in the homestead.This is made more difficult by the fact that I have to be around my daughter all the time since the rest of the children are at school.In the evening,when they return from school,they relieve me mostly by taking care of her.I can then attend to the other duties as well as rest.This is the happiest part of my day
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
In 2013,I gave birth to twins; a boy and a girl.I was very happy even as I kept on caring for them as they grew.At 9 months,I began to realize that the girl was disbled.She could not walk or speak like the other twin.They are now six years old and I still handle her like a toddler;she cannot do anything on her own.This has been very difficult for me because there are other duties that I need to perform so that I can help my spouse provide for the family but I can do very little because most times I am attending to my daughter.This is the biggest hardship I have faced
