How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different because I now have access to clean water. I bought a water tank that stores rainwater. This water is safe for drinking unlike the ones from a water pond that I used to drink. I would not have gotten money to buy a huge water tank because my reliance on menial jobs and subsistence farming would not have enabled me to buy one. Thank you so much GoveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well in helping us without discriminating. Everyone in my community got transfers despite different economic abilities.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on buying a heifer. I look forward to a time when it starts producing milk. I then build a kitchen since I did have one but was grass thatched and mudwalled. I constructed a more spacious one that is roofed with iron sheets. I then bought some fencing wire to paddock my farm.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My greatest desire has always been to build a more spacious house, since the hut we currently live in is tiny for a family of five and it is in a deplorable condition since it leaks in water whenever it rains. I will therefore build a two roomed iron roofed house that will ensure comfort for my children who are usually subjected to cold hence vulnerable to contacting diseases such as flu and pneumonia. Installing gutters around the house will also ensure i harvest enough clean water during rainy seasons which means i will spend the remaining part of my transfer to install two 300 litres water tanks to store enough water
What is the happiest part of your day?
My usual day involves going around people's homes in search for employment and whenever i am lucky to get one, my happiness comes in the evening after earning my daily wages that will enable me to buy food for my family.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Doing casual jobs in people's farms is what we depend on in order to earn a source of living in this family. My work entails looking for jobs in people's farms such as tilling and weeding which earns me a total of 1USD by the end of the day whenever i am lucky to get one. My spouse on the other hand has been employed to operate a powersaw and goes around cutting down trees to produce timber whenever he is called upon which earns him close to 2 USD on a typical day. Both our jobs are so tedious and unreliable hence providing basic needs for our three child is an uphill task which is the biggest hardship we face
