How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
So far so good because I do not have any new goals and the one that I had been yearning to achieve was a success. I had intended to renovate my rental house which had an old leaky roof. During the winter seasons, it was hectic because my tenants had to move out one by one and I ended up losing them which was a loss to me. So far the house is decent and fully occupied. Every month I have been collecting rent from my tents and through this cash, I have been able to fend for the family without struggling.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
According to me, GiveDirectly did a good job by making sure that every needy household received financial support. There was also fairness doing the registration period and no one was left out provided they were the residents of that particular village. I can't point out and sector that the organization did not perform well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent KES 48000 of my second transfer on buying some building materials such as iron sheets, nails, timber, and labor charges. I had intended to finish constructing and renovating my rental house. It had an old roof which could leak to an extent that most of my tenants could move to better houses. As a result, I used to count losses considering this was the only major source of income. Currently, all is settled and I have been making good profits through this business. I've been able to pay fees for my kids and settle all my bills on time. Having a family of five was quite tricky during those days because we could sometimes miss food. I later cleared school fees for my children who are in primary schools and bought foodstuffs with the remaining amount.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was about 9 am when I was in my farm preparing it to grow vegetables for my family use. I heard a loud message notification on my phone, after checking I was surprised to discover that it was the Mpesa message from Givedirectly. I felt very happy and thank God for the aid that would change our lives for the better.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am a happy farmer after upgrading my livestock rearing by purchasing 2 more local dairy cows. This is something that I would not have done without the help of the transfer. I am positive that I will be able to earn more money from milk vending hence able to meet the needs of the family more easily.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Being a livestock farmer, I have desired to improve my daily farming so that I may earn more income from milk vending. I spent KES 40,000 of my transfer to purchase 2 local dairy cows. This was to increase the milk production hence more income something that will enable me to meet the family's basic needs more easily. Previously, I was struggling to meet them especially food and my children's educational needs because of the low milk production. In addition, I am planning to sell the male offspring to educate the kids once they multiply. Having done so, I am optimistic that I will be able to earn an extra income of KES 200 per day once I start milking them. I also spent KES 2000 to clear fees arrears for my kids who are in lower primary. Furthermore, I used part of the remaining amount to purchase enough food for the family since we had no food and most of the time we use to go to bed without food. I bought household utensils and a pair of new clothes for everyone in the family.
