How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I feel better now, the money enabled me to get treatment which I could not afford before. I have bought a cow and there is hope of me completing the house construction. Before I got money, I was struggling with sickness and the construction was at stand still.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has left history in my village, it does well to give money directly to the people through the mobile phones, they do not have a middle man which gives surety that assistance reaches the right beneficiaries. They do follow up after transfers have been sent, this encourages recipient to spend their money well. GiveDirectly operates at a low cost because sensitization is done on the baraza day, they continously train at household level a long side enrollment instead of organising separate days for training the whole community . GiveDirectly did bad to leave out some true residents of the village.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer for buying a cow at UGX 600,000, paying school fees of UGX 200,000 and a medical bill of UGX 500,000. I have saved UGX 300,000, spent 5,000 on transport and 27,000 for food.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Although I have not yet started renovating my house as I plan, the biggest difference in my daily life is that happiness I feel for receiving this lump sum amount of money as it will enable me to renovate my house and give me a dust free surrounding. Prior to receiving this money, yes! I wanted to put my house right but all the money I got was always taken to solve other needs.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
On hearing people making noise, I had to ask my co wife what the noise was all about and she said it was because people had received money. I then checked my phone as well and alas! my money was there. At that moment I felt happy that I called upon God and thanked Him for this opportunity.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer Ugx 200000 to buy some utensils, and clothing for my children. I am saving up the balance of Ugx 1500000 that I plan to add up with the next transfer to renovate my already existing house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to complete the construction of my house. I started construction some time back but it came to a stand still due to financial constraints.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the afternoon when I am at the centre with friends. I interact freely with them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is taking care of the education needs of my children. There is no money. I do majorly agriculture and some small bussines for survival but the income is not enough. Some of my children have had to stay back home because I have failed to pay school fees. They are just home.
