How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I have been feeling upbeat ever since I began investing in livestock because I feel encouraged by how quickly they are growing. This is a guarantee that I won't have to struggle to support my family because there are ready markets for goats. Based on that, if I obtain some money, I intend to add more goats.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I congratulate GiveDirectly on a job well done, and the community as a whole is pleased with the kind gesture. The financial support went a long way toward guaranteeing that every villager's life was transformed. We will always be appreciative of everything and will continue to promote this organization's excellent performance.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Investing in livestock has been my desire for a while. Besides the goats which I already had, I used $118 from the second transfer to buy three additional goats. I opted to invest more in goats because they are cheaper compared to cows and they have ready markets. After that, I paid $50 school fees for my two primary school children so that they could be retained in school for better learning. I also decided to construct a house for my son. I bought him 14 pieces of iron sheets for $112, and some roofing timbers. For the building poles and rafters, he went by himself to the forest to cut to minimize the cost. Currently, the house is completed and he is happy in his house. I also bought some food since it was a tough time for us as a family and my vegetable vending business could not meet the family's needs.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was just relaxing with my friends at around 9 AM when I received a call from my helper informing me to check my phone since he was suspecting that my cash transfer had been sent. A few moments later I decided to check only to realize that it was true. I was overjoyed with happiness and without wasting time I called all my family members so that we can plan appropriately on what to purchase.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I was able to send my children to school. They have been staying home for almost three weeks because of the arrears. I was so worried that they would again miss an exam for the second time. My dream was to see all my kids get better grades and prosper in life since I never had the chance to go to school. I had however hopeless since my spouse is jobless and I had to take his role which has never been easy at all. As a mother, I am so grateful to see my kids going to school every morning like the rest which is a sign of a promising future.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of my first transfer on buying a few building materials which include iron sheets, timber, nails and poles a total of KES 20000 and the labour charges of KES 3000. This was for the construction of a new house for my son who has been sleeping at his friend's house since mine was very small. Later on, I paid school fees for my two children who have been home for quite some time. I am glad they are now continuing with their studies without any hiccups. Apart from that, I boosted my business( selling vegetables) which I have been operating but it has been deteriorating day by day. With the remaining amount of money, I bought furniture and plenty of foodstuffs for my family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have been doing a small-scale business of buying and vending groceries since I got married to support my husband. The proceeds of this business are as little as 300 KES a day because of low capital( I normally purchase goods amounting to 500 KES. I will use my transfers to increase my capital to 5000KES to boost my profit. I will also buy five goats at 3000 KES which will act as my long-term investment. I do cook in open air due to the lack of a kitchen. I am planning to spend 15000 KES of my transfers to erect a structure that will serve as a kitchen. The rest of the amount will support my household of foodstuff and my children's education.( I have two children in primary school)
What is the happiest part of your day?
I suffered from boils on my left leg for quite some time. This impaired my productivity as my work involved walking long distances. I am glad after getting medication, I recovered fully and I can now attend to my business.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My greatest challenge is financial instability. My business is dwindling as a result of insufficient capital. The little proceeds are used for food making it had to expand my business. My elderly husband is no longer productive as before( He used to do manual work before). I now have the responsibility of supporting the whole family.
