How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is great now, GiveDirectly money has enabled me to buy the cows that I am going to use as dowery for marrying. If I had not received this money, I would have done farming for many years in order to raise money to buy cows for marrying.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well to visit me after receiving transfers to find out how the money was spent. When they visit us, we are motivated to spend the money on things that are helpful to our lives. There is nothing they have done bad.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent UGX 1,330,000 of my second transfer to buy 2 cows, I used the balance to buy clothes, food and for harvesting rice.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
My life is different in that, I have acquired cows that I intend to pay as dowry to my in laws to be, since dowry is a prerequisite for an official marriage in our culture. In addition, I have bought shoes and new clothes. Previously, I didn't have hope of acquiring cows in the short period of time and I never owned shoes.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I learnt that I had received money from GiveDirectly at around 7:00 am, I became very happy because I had got money for buying cows to pay as dowry to my in laws to be.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent UGX 1,435,000 of my first transfer to purchase 2 cow, UGX 265,000 I bought clothes, shoes, bed sheet and foodstuffs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means I will be able to buy oxen that will support in farming and marry a wife. These are the things I have always longed to have but I do not have the capacity to do so. I am hopping for the best when I receive this money.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am happiest in the evening when I am at the centre with friends. I share ideas with them.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of money to do the things I would like to do. At my age, I feel I need a wife but I do not have resources to facilitate marriage. I do my work alone with no one to help. I don't eat well, I don't eat on time just because I don't have a wife who would take good care of me. I believe my poor standard of living now is as a result of staying single.
