How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I was living in a poor conditioned house which could bring worries to the family when it was raining. I have done farming which I believe will sustain my family economy in future. Now I have built a decent house that is spacious and strong. May God bless GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has transformed our society in terms of economic empowerment. People have benefited a lot and their income has improved. They have sent their children to school, have engaged in farming as well as business improvement.
To me, there is nothing I could pinpoint that has got negative impact.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer on 30 pieces of iron sheet, Timber 7and Solar panel. My house was in poor condition and building a new house was the only option. My home is far away from power line and installation of electricity is very expensive and the only source of power is solar. I bought solar panel that is now providing me with electricity, and I am able to watch news at the same time there is a source of light. Buying kerosene in our country is expensive at the same time it is air pollutant. My children can now have a cheap source of light to read.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means improved living conditions. I plan to buy iron sheets, timber and pay labor for improving my house.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when worshipping with our church members. It gives me hope in life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced in my life was losing all my money that had got from the sale of sugar cane. I joined politics and spent every cent that I had, things turned out negative and I lost the seat for area counsellor. I am now finding it difficult to pay for my family's needs like food, clothing and education.
