How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I wish to save some money to purchase another dairy cow, There is a high demand for milk and this means one can earn a good income from the sales of milk. I will devote much of my time to this dairy-keeping project because it is viable.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The training and the enrollment were perfectly done and everyone understood the program so well. Most people invested their money in income-generating projects and this has improved their standard of living. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent $230 on paying school fees for my two grandchildren who are in secondary school. They used to be sent home and this was so demoralizing to see them staying at home while others are studying. I paid their school fees and they are currently studying well without being disturbed like before. I spent $250 on purchasing a dairy cow, This is because I used to buy milk daily and it was so costly for me. Currently, I no longer buy milk and the money that I would have used on milk I spent on other household basic needs. I spent the remaining amount of money I spend on food, clothes and household items that we were missing. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has improved our standard of living.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. I earlier on heard from people that they had received money and it is my helper that told me that money had been sent to my phone too. I got so happy on learning this and made a decision to spend the money wisely
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference is the furniture and the livestock that I bought. I normally rely on proceeds from milk which is sometimes seasonal and would not allow me to invest like I invested. I feel so much happy and lucky to have been part of the beneficiaries.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used KES 30000 to buy a new cow and used the remaining amount to buy household furniture and food. I made a decision to invest in livestock that will always remind me of the enormous support that we received from GiveDirectly. I will always feel indebted to GiveDirectly for the support and change they brought in my life.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I used to be in the business of buying and selling cows at Chebunyo Market 3 years ago but I stopped because at that time I had 4 children in high school and I had to channel business money to pay school fees. Since they have all completed school my desire is to revive my business because it is one of the lucrative activities anyone can venture into. I am happy that GiveDirectly has enrolled me and I plan to use KES 50000 of my transfer in reviving this business. Receiving this money will mean a lot to me as it will get me back in business once again.
What is the happiest part of your day?
My son had applied for a job in Bomet County Government and just yesterday he got a call that he should report on Monday next week. I was happy that I received this news to a point of not catching sleep last night.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Financial instability is the biggest challenge that my family is facing at the moment. At the age of 77, my body is not strong enough to engage in activities such as farming as I used to in the yesteryears. I have four children who have completed their college education but none has managed to secure employment and that means they are not in a position to help me out. Nowadays I worry so much about where my next meal will come from because I can stay for weeks without a penny in my pocket
