How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is that my son now has a very comfortable place to sleep in and I also sure of his performance improving because he now has the best place to study in as compared to before when he was sleeping in the kitchen with alot of commotion. I am also at peace since I spent the money to pay school fee for my son who was sent home for school fee, since I was so much stressed being that I did not have any money at the time the son was sent home, I was also not sure of getting any money son. My son too is very happy back in school.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion give directly had a good idea of dealing with individuals and not groups, since this could have brought a lot of conflicts in the community. Giving people money was also another good idea because people has different priorities that when you give out money you will definitely change their life in one way or another.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
My elder son had a problem of not having a sleeping room. He used to sleep in kitchen where he was not very comfortable because the same kitchen was being used for cooking and the same time it was as a poultry house where i was keeping poultry, the poultry could make alot of noise that he could not sleep well. So when I got the transfer I thought of building for my son house and I spent most of the cash to buy building materials and built for my son a house. My son is now have a very nice comfortable house to sleep in, where privacy is paramount, he also have conducive environment for studying being that he is still a student. He no longer sleep in the kitchen any more as he used to do before. I also spent the transfer to buy furniture since I did not have proper furniture to sit on. I was sitting on some old furniture that I was wishing to hide them when I have visitors since they were embarrassing me. I now have very comfortable seats that most villagers do borrow them from me when they have visitors. The remaining balance I spent to pay school fee for my son after he was sent home for school fee arrears. I am glad I was able to pay his school fee with ease and now he is back to school learning.
