How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
We had been lucky in the community to have electricity power in our area however my homestead still remained in darkness since I couldn't afford the connection fee. The bigesst difference in my daily life since I received my transfer is the power that has been connected to my house. Currently, I am able to watch the television for daily updates of my country's affair, can recharge my phone at home and remain on without incurring a single cent unlike before. My children have ample time to study and do their home an habit that had greatly changed their results positively.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has empowered and really uplifted our lives. We own good house, livestock, households items among others courtesy of GiveDirectly. To me, GD is doing amazing work and I don't have anything against their style of operations.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Being a farmer, I used KES17200 on farming to improve my returns. I used it on fencing, buying of farm inputs and land preparation. In addition, I spent some amount on a water tank. I made this decision to help reduce the parden of collecting water every now since I have clean water at my doorstep. I spent some amount on family basic needs ranging from clothing to the daily household needs.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the new look in our house. It would have taken long to achieve what we have achieved so far. Perhaps up to 3 years of baby-steps due to lack of enough funds to improve our house and install electricity & buy the furniture.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
After enrollment, I listed the things I was planning to spend the funds on because I was certain GiveDirectly will send us the cash as promised. The funds came for sure, and I was happy. I waited for daybreak to execute my bucket-list because I received the cash wee hours in the morning. Thanks to God and GiveDirectly for helping us.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent a major part of the first transfer from GiveDirectly on installing electricity in our house. We were using a solar panel that was not working well, on & off. This was inconvenient for us. Now we are fully sorted energy-wise. I also bought chairs and a carpet. Our house got a face-lift because of the transfer. I like the new look! I had been desiring to make our house look good but couldn't due to lack of funds. My desire has been fulfilled courtesy of GiveDirectly. I spent some of the funds on farming - paying labor for digging so as to plant maize for consumption and sale. I also bought maize meal for us because we needed it.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that my children will have a bright future because I will be able to afford their school fees. I will use part of the money to buy a cow and some goats which will be sold once my children have passed their exams in standard eight.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the afternoon because this is the time that I rest after I am done with my morning chores. It is also the time I spent some time with my children after they have come from school.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life is that whenever I plant seasonal crops in my farm, they fail because of lack of rains. This means that we are forced to rely on casual labor so that we can eat in my house.
