How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is different from how it was before GiveDirectly came into my life in that, I am no longer idle around. I remember when I used to depend on casual jobs, I would just sit and do nothing during the days that I couldn't get a contract. Nowadays when casual jobs are unavailable, I use my time well. I take that time to graze my cows that I recently bought using the transfers I got from Give Directly
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, the awareness that GiveDirectly gave the community was awesome. We got to understand the program before the money was sent. The best part of it all is that no one instructed us on how to use the money. Our living standards have since changed because we are able to invest and use the money based on our own preferences
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the second transfer on purchasing a piece of land. I had bought a diary with the first transfer and the problem that I had was getting grass in our area. The idea of buying land was the best thing that I thought of in order to solve the endless problem of feed my cow. I plan to plant grass in the piece of land. I want to have enough food for the cow even in dry seasons so as to also have peace of mind with the neighbors whose crops are normally destroyed when the cow goes to their farm. Apart from all these, I also bought foodstuffs , clothes, and uniforms for my children.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
I always work hard to acquire anything valuable that I can have pride in my life but since I am a casual laborer, saving money for any investment was just a dream since daily household needs are more than my earning. With the daily need of milk my family consumption, having a cow had always been my biggest asset since this could be valuable at the same time give us milk in our family. The biggest difference in daily life currently is the savings and enough milk for my household that I currently get from the cow I bought using part of my first transfer. I currently do not spend on milk like before and also assure of my cow multiplying in future hence giving hopes of a better future.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy when I received a message notification at around midnight indicating that I had received money from GD. I immediately saw my big goal of having a cow to take pride as a family and help us in milk production for my family consumption being a reality.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I am a mother that always but the needs of my family ahead of my personal needs. Providing for my household daily needs had always been challenging with the low paying casual job that I do. Having young children giving the milk a day is compulsory for their health hence I am always forced to deep into my pockets to buy for them. This was becoming costly for me since I had no cow nor stable job for an astable source of income. I took KES30000 of my first transfer to buy a dairy cow that has really assisted me to save what I could have spent on milk and also have enough for my family consumption. I had been lick to have been educated by my parents but since I hand other sibling to be taken care of I completed college more than eights ago with areas that had withheld my certificate. I am currently happy and hopeful that soon I will get a better job after I took KES2000 of my first transfer to clear the fee areas and acquire my certificate. I spend the remaining amount on my children family clothing since this had always been forgone to other basic needs hence we had old and torn clothes.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I have always wished to have an extra income generating activity for an extra source of income, since i am primary school teacher and the salary i get is barely enough to meet the needs of my family. I therefore plan to buy two dairy cattle which will produce milk for selling. I will use the remaining part of my transfer to buy water tanks which will enable me to harvest water during rainy seasons.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a teacher in a nearby primary school thus im usually busy during the day. My happiness is always depicted in the evening since this is the time i arrive home from school to engage in my household chores such as cooking for my family, washing the laundry and cleaning the house, which makes a sucessful day to me.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
After studying in college for two years, i had to drop due to lack of school fees. However, i was offered employment in a nearby primary school but i am usually paid a small amount all because i did not complete my studies in college. My husband in the other hand says i should forget about going back to school and instead focus on taking care of our two children. I feel like all my dreams have been shattered and this is the biggest hardship i have faced
