How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am currently satisfied and happy with what I have achieved so far and have no new goals.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly changes lives. I did not have anything before, now i have a business to run and a good home to go back to. May God bless you.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I'm a tailor by profession and I own a small shop in my village. My business has been down for a while because I have been operating on very low stock and I lacked capital to bring it to capacity .I put in 30000kshs of the transfers I received into buying new materials which I intend to sell at a profit in the shop. This will improve my income greatly as compared to before. With the rest of the amount, I bought roofing sheets and pillars so as to upgrade my house from a run down shack to a decent mud thatched 4-roomed one.I am grateful to Give Directly for uplifting my business and my whole life.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I heard a buzz on my phone as I was taking a well deserved relaxing time at home. I did not expect such a pleasant surprise as an MPESA message. I was over excited and was not able to hold my joy. I visited an MPESA agent the following day to perform a withdrawal.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The funds enabled me to construct a much better house for my family and I as the one we were living in had a leaky roof and was constantly causing inconveniences whenever it poured.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
GiveDirectly came through in a mighty way by sending a token of KSH 55000 to my MPESA account and I was able to put the funds to good use. I had a substandard house which also had a leaky roof and with the amount received, I set aside KSH 25000 to build a better structure to conveniently house my family and I. A further KSH 3700, I bought a sack of maize which will enable the production of maize flour ensuring there is no lack of food. The remaining KSH 21300, I was able to save up for future reference hence no lacking in the days to follow.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My dream has always been to become one of the best tailors in our village. I am trained and certified only that I was not able to find employment and eventually I got married. I plan to set up a business and buy a sewing machine which I will use for a start. This transfer will come in handy once I locate a suitable area to put up the business.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I was so happy when I realized I was pregnant six months ago. I have been married for now seven years with only one child. My husband wanted another child and once I realized I was pregnant I knew there and then that I had saved my marriage.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I am currently seven months pregnant, this pregnancy has had its fair share of challenges. I have visited the hospital this past seven months so many times due to fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, headaches and fatigue. The doctors keep saying it is just a flu infection and it is because I am pregnant. This has made me not enjoy this journey and I look forward to the day I will deliver my baby.
