When we received our transfers, we were able to do a lot with it including building a brand new house and buying a dairy cow too. Having built a main house, we were left with a very old kitchen that is grass thatched. It is for this very reason that I have a new goal of building a new house that will serve as a kitchen. How we plan to do this is by selling one of the cows that we own to help us start up this project. By doing this, we shall have done a face lift to the compound and made our home more comfortable.

In my opinion GiveDirectly did very well by giving us the freedom to choose how to spend the money. We were able to use the money to complete some construction work that we were doing and this would not have been possible without the freedom to choose how to spend the money. We are so grateful to GiveDirectly for the timely support and for the freedom to choose how to spend the money. On the other hand, I did not find anything with GiveDirectly that I thought they could have done better

I used KES 25000 to pay for labour for a house that was constructed for us. We used the amount that remained to buy a a dairy cow that has turned out to be of great help to us. When we bought the dairy cow, we had three other dairy cows producing milk but shortly after that we experienced shortage of milk but after calving of this cow that we bought, we now have enough milk supply in our household.for casuals who were building for us and use the remaining amount to buy a dairy cow. We had one dairy cow and we made a decision to have an added one and to make sure that we have milk all year round. The cow has already calved and we have enough milk within our household.

It was around 6 am when I woke up and while trying to call a friend to accompany me to a village meeting is when's I saw a Mpesa notification on my phone. On checking, I had received KES 55,000 from GiveDirectly the previous night. I was very happy and related the good news to my family.

The biggest difference in my daily life is happiness because I have the capital to build a shop and toilets. These I had desired for the past two years but couldn't afford due to school fees burdens. But I am grateful because GiveDirectly has made my dream come true with ease.

I am a mother of thirteen. To feed my family and school, my kids, I normally rely on dairy farming and small-scale farming of maize and beans to feed the family and school my kids. Before GiveDirectly, my major dream was to build brick-walled latrines. This is because the timber-walled latrines have been falling off, especially during rainy seasons. So when I received my transfers, I spent KES 30,000 on building two brick-walled pit latrines. Additionally, I have bought building materials for a brick-walled shop too which will be a source of income for me because I no longer have the strength to work. Secondly, I spent KES 5,000 on food items, a thermos flask, and a pair of shoes for my daughter. Lastly, I have saved the rest for the completion of the building projects.
