How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am currently eight months pregnant and expecting my baby next month. Because of this, I am unable to do any heavy work, and I know that the expenses associated with childbirth will be many. I will need to hire a house help to assist me, which adds to my financial burden since my salary is very small.Given these circumstances, my plan is to start saving a small amount of money after two years. My goal is to build an additional room for my sons, as they are growing up and need their own space for privacy.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly has done many amazing things in our lives by providing us with unconditional cash that has allowed us to change our circumstances. One thing that has truly amazed me about GiveDirectly is their reliability; when they promise that money will arrive on a certain date, it always does. This consistency is very encouraging because it allows us to plan effectively as we await the funds. Additionally, the way GiveDirectly approaches and interacts with us is very supportive and respectful. When you visits other villages, I hope you continue with the same approach. Your work has changed and touched the lives of so many people, and I believe that God will bless GiveDirectly abundantly for their efforts.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am an Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher, working with playgroup pupils and earning $70 per month. Unfortunately, this amount is not enough to meet the basic needs of my three children. I was married, but I separated from my husband a long time ago because he was not responsible and found it very hard to take care of our children. Now, I am staying alone with my children. After my last transfer, I built an extra room made of iron sheets because the one we had was too small to accommodate all of us. I allocated $250 for the construction of this room. However, thinking about my future and the need for investments, I decided to purchase two goats for $100. I know they will be helpful in the future as I can sell them in case of an emergency.I spent $30 on school uniforms for my three children, something I had been unable to do due to my limited income. The remaining $70 was used to buy food for my family. Previously, we survived on my salary, and sometimes I had to do charcoal burning at the end of the month to have something to eat while waiting for my next salary.I am very happy and grateful because, through lGiveDirectly, I have seen a significant improvement in my life. My goats have already multiplied, and I am optimistic, knowing that I now have future investments.

How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
By the end of this year, my primary objective is to finish building our home and establish a small kiosk on our premises. This venture is intended to generate income, given that relying solely on agriculture has become increasingly uncertain.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Give Directly has instilled a sense of purpose and hope in many of us who have endured long periods of hardship caused by poverty and extreme weather conditions. We now carry a greater sense of confidence and happiness, as the direct fund transfers have unlocked numerous opportunities and pathways for our betterment. With this, I would like to encourage the organization to continue giving recipients the opportunities to make their own financial choices.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receiving my second transfer from Give Directly, the first thing I did was to pay off an overdue debt of $100. This debt had been causing significant stress due to persistent reminders from the creditor. Secondly, I decided to use $150 to replenish our food supply fully, ensuring that food security would not be a concern as I commenced the process of constructing our home. I invested $100 in purchasing iron sheets for the construction and spent $20 on their transportation to our site. I also refreshed my wardrobe with a few new clothing items, spending $20, and reserved $30 for unforeseen emergencies.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I vividly remember the moment I received my transfer. I was unwinding at home after a long day at school when I heard the buzz of my phone. Curiosity piqued, I paused and read the message, only to discover that GiveDirectly had sent me money. It instantly became the happiest day of my life, and overwhelming joy and happiness consumed me. As soon as my husband arrived home, I eagerly shared the news with him, and he too was filled with immense joy and excitement. Together, we began to strategize and plan how to make the most out of our transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The transfer I received has brought about a profound and positive transformation in my life. It has filled me with immense happiness. One of the reasons for this is that I was able to purchase an ample supply of food for my household, enabling us to enjoy three meals a day instead of just one as we did in the past. The assurance that neither I nor my family will go hungry fills my heart with gratitude and joy.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
The assistance provided by GiveDirectly proved to be a true blessing for my family. I work as a kindergarten teacher, while my husband earns a living through farming, and together we are blessed to have three children. As soon as we received the initial transfer, I wasted no time in implementing my plan. My first priority was to acquire two goats, which cost $50 in total, and three hens at $12. With the remaining funds, we purchased essential food supplies, as we were accustomed to eating only once a day due to the prolonged drought. In a remarkably short span of time, I was able to achieve a great deal, all thanks to the financial support from GiveDirectly. This was a feat I never thought possible due to our previous financial limitations. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity that has transformed our lives for the better.

What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
My plan is to first purchase food with first transfers. I plan to purchase maize and beens at about $110. For the remaining amount I plan to purchase chicken for $20 and 2 goats at $70. For the second and third transfers I plan to build a house since we live in a single house which is not enough for my 3 children my husband and I. With the amount that remains I plan to buy more goats. I thank God for GiveDirectly because the transfers will surely change my life.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I'm a pre-primary school teacher teaching our local school (Chebarsiat primary school) employed by Baringo county. My happiness came in February this year my teaching contract was extended for 3 more months which made me very happy. I'm glad that atleast I have a chance to feed my family with the little that I get.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
There are a lot of challenges that I'm faci seeng at the moment. The main challenge however, is the lack of money. This has been caused by prolonged drought and also increased inflation and cost of living in our country. Because of this, it has been difficult for me to meet my family's basic needs such as food and clothing. I have been forced to sell all my chicken to be able to make ends meet. This saddens me greatly since I'm left only with some goats and empty chicken houses.
