How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Without the transfers, life would have been really so hard. Looking back at the great steps and achievements I have coined since I received the transfers, it is hard to imagine how it would have been without that money. I am quite sure that I would have sol part of my land to settle the medical bills and my children would have stayed home due to lack of school fees.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly's work in both our village and my household was really well done. I got a chance to be well again after using the whole of the first transfer on seeking medication since I received when I was really sick. At the moment we can't complain at all since we have a feeling that everything was done so well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
Upon receiving the second transfer frommGiveDirectly, I spent part of it on paying school fees for my two sons - one in college and the other in secondary school. I also used part of the remaining on obtaining new school uniforms for the secondary school student. I took 24000 KES of the remaining amount and used on buying a heifer, bought clothing for my children and used the remaining in adding up the household foodstuff.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The Biggest difference is the fact that I am healed. I used to feel a lot of recurrent pain in the weeks before. When the money came, I was adimmites in a hospital in a very critical condition. I hade been taking medication that was not responsible. During that period, I could no longer work. Thanks to GiveDirectly, I currently work like everybody else. I am back to a normal and productive life to help my household once again being that I am the main breadwinner.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The money came while I was sleeping in the hospital ward. I had already started medication but was planning to go and sell our land which was so heartbreaking. I was so stressed about the land and my child's school fees while receiving medication to an extedn that I thought I would not survive. My child would have stayed at home because there was no money even if we sold the land. It would have just been used to pay the hospital bill and nothing more. GiveDirectly saved my life and my home.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer on paying school fees for my child at a University. I paid Kes 20000 to clear her school fees for the current semester. I then used the money on treating myself. This was KES 30000. I was suffering from a disease that I believe to be Meningitis that would have destroyed my life. We were contemplating selling a piece of land that we live on to save my life. I am so lucky that GiveDirectly saved my life and let my family continue living gon our precious home farm. I am scheduled for a follow-up visit tomorrow and I am already feeling healed. The payment I made was sufficient and I don't have to pay any further medical fees during the next several visits.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My first priority when I get this money is buying a dairy cow.The milk I get from this cow will help me get money to pay school fees for my children.I will also buy around 10 chicken to begin a little bit of poultry farming which I will keep on expanding with time.I have a daughter in the university who needs school fees and therefore this money will help a great deal.
What is the happiest part of your day?
After preparing my children to go to school in the morning,I go to work as a casual labourer in other people's farms till noon.I come back home to prepare lunch then go back to work till 5pm.Most of the time I weed people's farm. The happiest part of my day is in the evening because I get to relax after a tough day in the farm.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
I have seven children and providing them with basic needs and education is quite a huge task.My husband and I are casual labourers which earns us very little money.Getting work to do is also not guaranteed. This has had us struggle especially in paying school fees.My first born who is now in university has gone through a lot due to lack of school fees. She was in and out of school which made me feel so bad as a parent.I once felt that I had failed as a parent but I am glad she finally made it to the university. My second born will be joining secondary school next year and this is giving me sleepless nights.Getting money for school fees is therefore the biggest hardship I have faced in my life.
