I intend to concentrate more on farming to make sure that my family is sorted food-wise. With a great supply of foodstuff, other basic needs will be easy to manage. I also would like to start my own business of buying and selling livestock.

This initiative gave a new face to every household and more so the whole village. We were given a chance to listen and decide on how to spend the transfer independently without being coerced. When I received the second transfer, I used most of it to purchase dairy cows. Together with my wife, we are farmers and this has been our main source of income since none of us is employed. We went to the market and got two fat cows which cost us $460. Both cows produce at least two liters of milk daily, which we sell at the dairy shop. We use that money to buy food and other basic needs for the family. I have five children, but only one is currently left schooling the rest have their own families. I also bought a pump worth $20 and some livestock medicines for $10. With the remaining $40, I replenished food stuff that would last us for a month.

It was early in the morning on 16th September when I received a message from GiveDirectly bearing the great news I had been waiting for. With my spouse at home, our excitement was at its best. At first, we thought it was a prank message but then the whole neighborhood had the same reaction at that specific moment. We thanked God as we reconfirmed the plans we had laid down the previous week. We had no hurry withdrawing the money but took our good time, relaxed, and collected it when every other person had withdrawn as the shops around were flooded with people looking for the withdrawal points.

Enough supply of milk from the recently bought cow is still unbelievable to me as this had been a dream to me. Seeing it come true is the biggest difference in my life since I am no longer spending a lot on buying milk but instead saving to cover other household needs.

After spending all the money and selling all the livestock I had to settle school fees for my three sons, life had been so hard as it has been hard buying milk every day from the neighborhood. I was glad to receive this money and had to spend KES32000 on obtaining a lactating cow. Currently, my family is enjoying enough supply of milk, and saving the small amount I had been spending on milk will at least settle other household bills. I also spent KES12000 of the remaining amount on obtaining a new piece of furniture. I had been using the immobile wooden benches fixed around the walls in my house that I just demolished as I brought in a new set of sofa. With the small remaining amount, I spent it on clothing for my spouse as she needed some new pairs and also foodstuff for my household.
