How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has changed for the good because we now have this new house where we live the entire family and everyone fits in quite comfortably. We also have a cow that will be providing milk so we will not have to be buying milk from the local vendors like we have been doing.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I believe that peoples lives have been changed to a great extent because members of the community were able to get those things they have ever wanted to purchase but then due to a number of reasons they have never been able to do so.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I bought one cow with the main reason being that it will give birth in the future which will bring an increase in the number of domestic animals in my herd. Apart from that, I also built a new house for my family reason being that the house we used to live in became so old and dilapidated. A section of the money was also spared and spent on paying school fees for the kids as well as buying food for them.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
Receiving this transfer has brought great improvements in my life as I now own some assets that I never thought of owning in my life. It seemed impossible for me to have a pair of oxen that would facilitate my farming and in ensuring that I do my cultivation and planting timely and early for abundant harvests. I am now glad that I won it and I am assured of increased yields as from this year which will be enough for my family throughout the year. To me, this is the biggest difference in my daily life.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I had woken up early that morning, already in my farm weeding my crops. I heard my phone ringing informing me of message notification. I went through my inbox to confirm who the sender was. On confirming, the message was from GiveDirectly that I had received my first transfer. I was exceedingly happy and overjoyed for receiving such a large sum of money that I never expected to get in my life.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I had only one bull previously and because money was not enough for me, I was not able to buy another one so that I can add them to be a pair. On receiving the first transfer, I bought another bull so as to make a pair. and I am happy that through them then I will be able to effectively plan for my cultivation earl;y and timely so as to get an abundant harvest. I am planning to build a new house since the one I am currently living in is in a bad condition and renovating it will be much costly than to build a new one. I also spent part of the transfer to pay for my children's school fees.I spent my first transfer to buy a bull. My intention is to keep it so that it will help me in farming and early planting for. I also bought Iron sheets. I paid for school fees for my children who are primary school. I also bought clothes for my children.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I will be able to buy iron sheets for repairing my house because it leaks during heavy rains. I will spend part of the transfer on starting a small business of selling groceries like kales, onions and tomatoes at our local market so that I can generate more income for our family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I go to fetch water at our local water pan and manage to secure four buckets of water. This makes me happy bacause we face a serious challenge of water shortage and whenever I get the rare commodity my family is happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face in my life is that I have two children who depend on me for school fees and at times I am not able to raise their tuition fees making them to stay at home while their peers are in school.
