Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My husband wasn't employed so he used to go to the bush every morning to lack trap for animals. If he's fortunate he'll catch a squirrel or an ants eater etc... On other days, he came home empty handed. These are days I don't want to talk much about because we go to bed on empty stomach. Suddenly, that faithful morning while I was still in my room, I received my transfer from GiveDirectly. I was so overjoyed that tears started to roll down my cheeks. I knew fully well that this grant from GiveDirectly will be used wisely allowing my family and I have more than one source of income instead.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before receiving my transfer from GiveDirectly, my husband and I depended solely on lacking trap to kill animals as our only means of survival. Nevertheless, with my transfer from GiveDirectly, I've empowered myself by establishing my retailed table market business. We no longer had to wait for a catch from the trap my husband set before having a daily bread. Most often, I used the profit from my retailed business to buy food for my home. I'm so thankful to GiveDirectly for such a life changing opportunity.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Before receiving my transfer from GiveDirectly, I wasn't working and lacking trap to catch animals was our only means of survival. Hence, my husband and I decided to put most of the money in business. I bought few bags of rice to be sold at $50LD per cup.I also bought fish and sold it at $100LD for 2 pieces. Furthermore, I bought a lot of other goods such as pepper, tye soap, biscuit , vita etc... All these were sold on a table market right infront of my house in James Town.
