How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life is currently different than how it would have been if I never received the transfer because I managed to buy seats and other household's items such as utensils and a mattress. I was rendered a very poor man in my community who owned nothing meaningful.I am now quite respectable because I also have a sugarcane farm like my neighbours. I also bought a sheep which I would keep as an investment that I can sell to make money in case of a financial emergency.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly does well in giving money to the poor. It helps in uplifting people from poverty since the money issued is non-refundable. I have managed to do a lot with the money I received from GiveDirectly because it was unconditional. There is nothing that GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to pay school fees for my grandchild who is in high school. I have been his guardian since his parents died so seeing him through his education was my responsibility. I used the remaining to rent a piece of land for sugarcane farming. This would earn me some income in the near future thus enabling me to pay my grandson's school fees with much ease.
