Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the transfer I felt so happy. I remember it was around 9:45am. When I heard a ringtone message from my phone. I was in school teaching. I am a ECD teacher. When I checked out the message. I felt so happy. It was a message confirming that I have received money from GiveDirectly. I have never received such amount of money before. I immediately inform my spouse and he was also so happy. We knew we would be able to buy building materials to build a kitchen which was my dream.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have build a better kitchen house. We used to cook in a small grass thatched kitchen which was leaking from inside. This was so stressful especially during the rainy season. We had always wished to build a better house but we didn't had the money to do so. We do not have a continuous source of income or savings. We do casual jobs and small scale farming at home. The little money that we get is only for household needs. We had no extra money to buy the building materials.when we received the transfer from GiveDirectly we decided with my spouse to build a better house. Currently we have a spacious and decent kitchen. We no longer get worried whenever there is rain. GiveDirectly has changed our living standard. We now live and stay in a clean environment. We are so appreciative for this wonderful thought from GiveDirectly.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on building a better kitchen house for cooking. I used to cook in a small grass thatched kitchen which was not conducive. I bought building materials and build an extension rooms for visitors in the main house. I am so happy because I will host my victors comfortably. The rest of the money I bought food and other household items. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard to be much better than before.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
My dream is to be a certified teacher.Due to financial strains I haven't been able to finish my diploma studies in Early Childhood Education. Once in a will I get called for temporary jobs that pay $40-$50 per month. This is because I did not finish school and get certified. I will use $450 to pay for my school fees, $300 for finishing our house by adding 2 more rooms for our children and the remaining to purchase a dairy cow that we can sell milk and get an extra income.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is during the day when I'm at work teaching my students. This is because I get to impact a lot on them and be part of a brighter future.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I have faced is financial constraints. Both my husband and I earn a combined income of $150 per month from my teaching job and selling farm produce. Our children need school fees, clothes as well as a bigger shelter, the income we get can not sustain all these needs. I haven't been able to finish my education because of prioritizing our children's education and the above needs
