How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I would love to keep cattle. Goats, sheep and chicken would be what I am aiming to keep. That would be a good way to increase my income. With extra cash I can grow my business and stock more items to beat the competition I am getting from a wholesale shop that is right next door.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
The initiatives that GiveDirectly allows recipients to begin and complete, are truly life changing. I would only wish that they continue to offer assistance to all those who are needy and transform their lives as much as they have mine
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My stay at home wife and I were in in need of some decent utensils in our house, so we set out to get some of those with the transfers that GiveDirectly had blessed us with. Further to that, I boosted the stock in my retail shop where I sell food stuff. It's located in one of my father's building, which he allocated to me to play my trade. It has been sustaining me and my family, and helping in catering for the fees of my two kids. The cash injection by GiveDirectly assisted me to clear some of the bulk of the fees for my eldest in Kabarak University, as well as cater for my 2nd borns Grade one fees of KES. 500 per month. The drought had left me disheartened but both my family and I are thankful for all GiveDirectly has done for us.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so much happy the moment I received money from GiveDirectly. It was around 6:00 pm and I was in my shop just about to leave for home. When I got home, I shared the good news with my wife who equally was very much excited to learn this. We later on after three days went and withdrew the money and we put it into good use.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the restocking of my shop. I had just started my business and the amount of profits that I made was very minimal and right now the business is better and can sustain my family of two children
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We used KES 20000 to improve my shop keeping business and used the remaining amount to buy other basic household needs for our family. The money came at a time that that I had just started operating a shop keeping business and I had started small. I had a desire of improving it but the amount of money that I had would not be enough . I felt so lucky to have received the money and right now I have more stock and more profits

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money will help me repair the roof ceiling of my house which is falling off. Other than that, I would like to extend my house by one room so that my daughter can have a room of her own. She currently sleeps at her grandfather's house. This will cost me not less than 30,000 KES. My second plan is injecting some capital to my recently started business. The business lacks a lot since I just started and keeping at par with the competitive market will require a variety of items. I will therefore use the remaining 25,000 KES of the transfers for that.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I remarried at the beginning of this year after almost five years living alone after separating with my wife. It feels good beginning a new life and having a companion that I can count on. I hope that this new beginning will be a union to last for the rest of my life. I am a very happy man now.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The tough economic times have really made it difficult to make economic progress. Whenever I make long term plans, things change within a short time. For example, I had a plan of expanding my house but recently the market prices for building materials have spiked. My family is growing bigger hence the need for a bigger house. I have a business that I recently started and I am still crossing fingers because it has not stabalized yet. Those are just but a few of my worries.
