How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
With my second transfer, I used to purchase more materials for my ongoing house construction hence I do not have any new goals since I am currently working on completing the house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
I appreciate the time Givedirectly officers took to teach us about the company and also about the enrollment process which everyone followed to the latter. I do not see anything that Givedirectly did not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon receipt of my second transfer, I prioritized purchasing iron sheets and nails at a cost of Kshs.40,000 which I used to work on roofing of my newly constructed house which I started with my first transfer. I also spent the remaining amount to pay for labor. I am currently working on completing the house hence we can move in and enjoy the spacious rooms.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I can clearly recall the moment I received my transfer, it was exactly 9:24am when I was tending to my cow in the fields when I heard my phone ringing and vibrating loudly, Upon checking I saw a Mpesa notification message showing that I had received money from GiveDirectly, this was the best news that I had received that early morning, I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness, I then rushed home and informed my wife and children, words cannot express how happy they were but above all, I am grateful to have received the support from GiveDirectly.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
I was so ashamed of my living standard, especially how my house, this made me start saving up some money from my income so that I could build myself a better house in the future, fortunately, GiveDirectly came to my rescue with the transfer that I was given, I knew this was the only opportunity for me to prove to myself that I could change my life to a better one, therefore I bought bricks and other building materials, I am so relieved that I have managed to realize my goal within a short period, GiveDirectly has amazingly impacted my life and I am grateful.

I live in a mud house in the village, it is small and uncomfortable, especially when we have visitors, This made me start saving up money from my little income so that I could improve the status of my house, fortunately, GiveDirectly came to our village and promised us the unconditional transfer, I was relieved with the news in that I started drafting a budget on how I would spend the transfer. When the came I used 54,000 in buying bricks, cement, and other building materials, I am looking forward to receiving the next transfer so that I could start the construction work. I am so happy and grateful for the support that has lifted my living standards.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I depend on subsistence farming for a living but unfortunately, with the current climatic changes I have not been able to produce enough to feed and educate my children. Receiving this money means good education for my daughter as she will be joining form one in a months time. I will use 600usd of the transfers on her school fees for 2 years. Furthermore,I intent to build a timber walled house (300usd) as the one I currently live in is mud walled and the rest of the transfers, I will spend on food for the household.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Afternoon makes the happiest part of my day as I have food from the farm to feed my family. I am a farmer and I till it on a daily basis.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Drought and hunger has been my biggest hardship.I solely depend on subsistence farming to educate and feed my family. Nonetheless, the harsh climatic conditions has been unfavourable for my farm produce. I am left to sell the chicken to earn income to buy food for my family which at times is not enough.Although we have never slept hungry , but getting the resources to purchase food is straineous and sometimes unpredictable.
