Before GiveDirectly came, I was suffering so much in terms of the basic needs. I fully relied on charcoal selling for a living. But since the day I received the transfers from GiveDirectly my life has changed. I constructed a decent house; I also own livestock not unlike before when I was just seeing them in other households. The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now happier and very hopeful. I am now sleeping under a very decent shelter that is spacious enough with long-lasting roofing. Being in a polygamous marriage life has never been easy. We have been sleeping under one small house together with my other two cowives and our children had to seek shelter from their friends. This was always frustrating because we have never experience the joy of living with our children under one roof. This is because since our spouse passed on some years back, each one of us has been struggling to make sure the children get their daily bread. Which sometimes was not achievable and therefore constructing my own hose was still a dream to me. However, after receiving the cash transfer, I had to prioritize building a new house which for now my life has been so good. My children no longer have to seek shelter from friends I stead, we are sheltering one roof.

I spent a larger fraction of my first transfer on buying building materials which include iron sheets, building poles, timber, threads, and nails. I purchased all these with an intention of constructing a new house because the previous one was very small and could not accommodate some of my family members. With the remaining amount of money, I am using it to buy sufficient food and other household items that I was lacking at the moment.
