How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
As a middle age woman passionate about farming as one of my source of income, receiving money from GiveDirectly was a breakthrough towards expanding and improving my poultry farming to earn better. Today, the birds I bought they have grown to the egg laying stage hence I earn more through selling these eggs since their production have increased. I am glad that GiveDirectly has empowered my life in a bigger way which cannot be explained through words.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly did well through sensitizing us on how their operation would be. Secondly, making the enrollment of the project to be voluntary was an awesome idea too. There is nothing GiveDirectly didn't do well at its work.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to buy a pair of oxen and nine chicken. At the moment, I am training them for cultivation hence I am certain of an extra income through hiring them for cultivating my neighbor's farms when they would have been skilled enough . I built a kitchen . I bought a bed and a mattress for my children with the remaining amount.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
As a farmer I had desired to rear livestock for a long period of time but due to my financial status, I could not afford it. the moment I received my first transfer my first priority was to buy them. Having the dairy cow, the goats and the hens has made my life to be totally different. From the dairy cow, I will be getting milk for my family consumption and to add on that the remaining few liters I will be selling them to the local shops. This will be my additional capital which will help me especially in paying school fees for my children. The goats and the hen's whin they multiply I will start a business of selling the young ones in the local markets. This will also be my other source of income. I will be able to cater to my family's basic needs with eas unlike before where my kids used to stay at home due to school fees arrears and even starve. This has all changed.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was awakened by a loud vibrating from my mobile phone. I was a bit surprised because it was not normal for my phone to vibrate at such an hour. I decided to check its content, only to realized it was from GD. They had fulfilled their promise of debited my first transfer into my account. I was so happy knowing my life will change very soon.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent part of my first transfer on expanding my business of selling some building poles. It has been my business but it was collapsing because of the little profit I was utilizing in my family's basic needs. I then bought a dairy cow and seven and hens. I am assured of benefiting a lot from these domestic animals i.e, I will be getting milk for free, some manure and many more. I also bought a bed and a mattress for my children because initially, they used to sleep on some old mats. This issue was really stressing me but I could not help because of my financial status. They are now sleeping comfortably and I am also glad as their parent.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Poultry farming has been my greatest desire in my life but because of financial constraints, this dream has never materialized. This has forced me to remain a house wife and my husband is also doing casual work that does not earn him enough to support our basic needs. Receiving this money means fulfilling my inner desires. I intend to start the poultry project which will act as my reliable source of income. This is because through it, I plan to supply chicken at Bamba market and this will earn me more profit. The remaining amount will support me to buy an oxen and ox plough in order to upscale my farming. This will will change my life for the better, a transformation that I have longed for.
What is the happiest part of your day?
When I wake up in the morning, I prepare my children to school. Thereafter, I fetch water from the nearby tap. During my lunch hours I prepare our meal and share with my family. Having done that, I leave to collect firewood to be used in the evening. It is only in the evening after dinner where I get ample time rest from the busy day. Therefore, this is the happiest part of my day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Lack of a reliable source of income is my biggest hardship. This is because, I am a house wife and a dependant to my husband who is a causal labourer. His earnings are low such that they cannot fully support our basic needs. In some cases, we skip our meals something that has makes my life so difficult.
