Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was very happy when I first received the first transfer from GiveDirectly. It was early in the morning and at this moment, I was alone at home. My helper came in shortly after and confirmed that the message that had just come in was a confirmation of the first transfer. We planned and withdrew the whole amount later that day with my helper at the nearby shopping center since the plans on how to spend were already set.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the relief from the high cost of living after buying a dairy cow with the first transfer. I had been buying milk for my family of four in the past few years after selling all the livestock that used to provide us with milk. I am glad that we can now get enough from the dairy cow I bought and hopeful that the second transfer will still enhance the establishment of other new projects.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After selling all the livestock I had to pay school fees for my children, the transfer from GiveDirectly brought forth a chance to redeem all that I thought had been lost. Even though I still have one son actively schooling, I still had to spend KES 33000 on buying a dairy cow that brought a stop to the daily expenses on milk. Since the death of my wife some months ago, life has never been easy with my family of four. It was a relief though when GiveDirectly came in with this generous support that has enhanced great transformation in my family. I also spent the remaining KES 21000 on clearing school fees arrears, settling the ongoing term's fees, and also paid part of the following term for my son in secondary school. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for coming in when we needed such support the most.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means better education for my son who is in secondary school. My son has not had a humble time to study due to constantly being sent home to collect school fees. I am worried he would not get enough time to revise for his final exams since I still have school fees arrears of KES 12000. So when I receive this money I Will pay the school fees arrears of KES 12000 and the remaining amount purchase a dairy cow.
What is the happiest part of your day?
Givedirectly could not have come at a better time than this. I was filled with joy and happiness when I heard that I was going to benefit from this grant as we had planned before the sudden death of my wife. I will spend this money to fulfill my wife's last wish of paying school fees for my son.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge I am currently facing is the death of my wife. This came as a shock to me since she has been in good health only to get ill shortly and passed away. This has brought sadness in my life as we had a lot of plans together concerning my son who is yet to sit for his final exams.
