What did you spend your third transfer on?
I spent my third transfer on furnishing the house that I had built using my second transfer. I lacked several household items that I knew I would never get if I fail to purchase them using the last transfer. Being a husband and a father of two, I found it a very big shame spreading pieces of torn clothes on the floor of my parents' kitchen where we spent our nights. We had no blanket to cover ourselves up during cold nights. As a result, my children developed pneumonia and several other cold-related infections that call for a quick medical attention. Am so proud that we own beds and proper bedding today and no longer suffer from any cold-related infection. We also purchased enough utensils, we no longer share plates and cups as we did previously.
How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has greatly changed with the transfers from GiveDirectly since I no longer squat in my parents' kitchen for lack of a house.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly has worked so well in my community. The fact that it gives unconditional cash transfers to its recipients leaves a big legacy in the entire community.
