What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My house was destroyed by the floods, leaving me in an unsafe, dilapidated dwelling that is particularly hazardous during rainy weather. The $2 my daughter earns daily from casual labor on farms is inadequate to cover our family's food and other expenses. Additionally, managing my tuberculosis has become challenging as I sometimes skip medication due to financial constraints, including the cost of transportation and paying for medical services.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I'm delighted to see my maize farm thriving after the heavy rains we've experienced. It fills me with hope for a bountiful harvest ahead.
What do you plan to do with the cash transfer?
To address the food shortage for my family, I will allocate $77 towards purchasing enough food, reducing our dependence on sporadic casual labor jobs. Additionally, I will use another $77 to replace household items lost in the floods, such as beds, mattresses, chairs, and utensils, ensuring comfort and improving our living conditions. To tackle the current housing problem caused by the floods, I will invest $539 in materials to construct a better house for my family. Looking ahead to create a sustainable income, I will allocate $154 to purchase 5 goats. This investment will provide milk and income from selling their offspring, securing a future revenue stream for our family.
