Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
My husband and I were working in the fields when we received the first transfer. We were so thrilled and both bragged about it for a good hour. After we were done working in the fields, we took a 30 minutes trip to the mobile money agent that was near us. The first thing that I wanted to do was buy some land and build a house. I am so happy I was able to do both.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
We did not have our own house before receiving the first transfer. We were able to build our own house, buy livestock and most importantly a piece of land that we believe will be very beneficial for us. Without GD, we would not have been able to think and accomplish such a big project.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I convinced my husband in buying some land that was on sale for 200 $, spent 80 $ to build a house, bought a pig and a goat for 40 $ and 20 $ respectively. I chose to spend most of my first transfer in buying some land because agriculture is the primary source of income in our sector. In other words, you have a tangible asset when you have some land in our village.
