How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I did not have any new goals before receiving this transfer. The roof of our house is not in a good condition. It leaks during the rainy season. We can hardly sleep when it is rainy. We have to stay awake to put dishes to every hole in the roof that the water comes out through. This is so disheartening. I am a farmer. I can hardly afford our upkeep. Things have not been so good for my family. Sometimes we find it difficult to pay our children tuition. There have been so many challenges we have faced as a family. The sad part is that we could not change any of those challenges because we are poor people. I have always wanted to either change the roof of our house or build a new one. I have not been able to achieve this due to poverty. I was overjoyed when I received my payment. Things will never be the same for my family anymore. Henceforth, our lives will improve.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
From the onset of this entire process, I barely had interest because I thought that it was a lie. Little did I know that this organization called GiveDirectly is an organization with a very good reputation and it does not lie. It's cash program is an amazing opportunity that changes the livelihood of many poor people. That is amazing. In my opinion it has not anything unwell. We are so grateful to God through this our lives will improve for the best.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I was so excited when I received my payment. Being enrolled in this cash program is a dream come true for my entire family. We could hardly afford our daily needs. Now all of that will change for the best. Our lives will now get better. I used some of my money to buy few bundles of zinc and some other building materials. I used a little amount to buy a bag of rice. I used the rest of my payment to start a new business. I am so grateful for this opportunity given me to live a better and improved life.
