My life is different than how it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have build a better house for my sons. My sons used to sleep at the neighbor's house because I had not build them their own. Walking at night was so risky for them, especially during the rainy season, they were exposed to cold. I was so worried. I do small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption and sometimes we sell the surplus at the market to earn an income to pay the school fees. I didn't had an extra money to build them a house. When I received the second transfer I started buying the building material and build them a house. Currently they no longer walk for that distance to sleep at the neighbor's house, they are no longer exposed to cold because they have their own house. They can do assignment without any disturbance. In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses and to buy dairy cows. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well .

I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on building a better and spacious house for my sons. They used to spend night at the neighbor's house. I also bought a water tank for storing water for domestic use and paid college fees for my son The rest of the money I bought television and food for the family.

I had just been served tea, I wanted to take a sip when I heard a message tone on my phone, it was the GiveDirectly transfer and I was so happy. That day I was very bubbly and taked alot. I went to collect the transfer 2 hours later.

My son with whom I built the house used to go about asking his friends for a place to sleep and this did not excite either him or us as his parents . With the transfers, I saw it prudent to build him his own house and buy him new beddings. This way, he says he is more confident amongst his friends since he has ownership of a place he can sleep.

I was able to build a house for my son who has been going about asking his friends for a place to sleep. My wife and children also got to buy beautiful clothes and I still plan on buying a heifer which will be a future investment for milk production in our home.
