Some recipients spending their transfers to improve their dwelling places , while others are sending their children to schools. Thanks to Givedirectly for being one of the transparent Organizations in Liberia. For area of improvement, Givedirectly needs to work closely with Lonestar cell MTM for cashing out of recipients transfers. Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I was sitting at home in Sinah town when I received my mobile money transfer from GiveDirectly. With great excitement, I started dancing and immediately called my husband to share in my joy. My husband and I have always dreamed of buying Zinc to roof our house. We also did not have enough food at home but with this mobile money transfer from GiveDirectly, My husband and I were able to purchase 2 bundles of zinc to roof our house. The balance money was used to buy three bag of rice for consumption and sale respectively.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
My husband works at the gold mine digging gold. The money he earns is used to feed our home, takes care of medication, transportation etc.. Interestingly, this was our only source of income. Therefore we could hardly continue our house project and sometimes go to bed on empty stomach due to limited finances. Nevertheless, with GiveDirectly's money transfer we are much more relieved and I am able to do my retailed business (selling rice by cup) which will serve as additional source of income for me and my household. My house (roof)project will also be completed with portion of the money transfer I've received. I am very grateful for this unbelievable gift from GiveDirectly that has positively impacted the life of me and my family.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After I withdrew the money transfer from my mobile account, My husband and I bought two bundles of zinc to roof our new house. It has always been our desire to move into a bigger house that has been roofed with zinc. We also bought three(3) bags of rice with portion of the money. I am selling two of the three bags of rice by cup (retail) while the other one bag will be used to cook our daily meal. I thank God for this unique project by GiveDirectly and we're hopeful of our next transfer very soon.
