How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The biggest difference in my life is the very complete house that I had been struggling with for a long time. I spent the money on completing the house, painting it and buying furniture. It looks great and makes me happy to live in it with all the improvements that I made.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is the best in what they do. The form in which they gave us this donation is so convenient. I was able to do all that I had dreamed of because they gave me cash. There is no way in which GiveDirecrly did not do well during the time they were in my village.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent the money I received improving my home buy painting my house and buying furniture. I also completed the house by putting the ceiling board. I also bought foodstuffs and two sheep to rear. I finally paid attention to my children by buying them clothes.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the fact that I have been able to buy a cow and fenced my compound. These are things that I would not have accomplished up to date had I not received this transfers. I now have peace of mind as well having accomplished the things I thought I would not have accomplished anytime soon. I am sure that in the near future I will be more financially able and able to meet most of my expenses without entirely depending on casual labor like I have always done. I look forward to accomplishing much more once I receive my second transfer.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I felt so happy the moment I received my transfers from GiveDirectly. I heard my phone ring at around 5:00 am in the morning that day and on checking it I was surprised that I had just received a sum of KES 55000. There and then I knew that I was going to accomplish my plans that had only remained as dreams due to financial constraints. I felt so much indebted for GiveDirectly having fulfilled their promise to us.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I used KES 15000 to buy basic household needs and used KES 10000 to buy a cow worth KES 25000 and used the remaining amount to buy household furniture. I chose to invest in these things since they have always been a priority to me and I have looked forward to accomplishing them but I have always been restrained by finances or lack of it. I feel so proud that I have been able to accomplish these.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
When I receive this money,I will buy one dairy cow. This will cost me Ksh 20,000(200 USD).The milk that I will get will serve as a source of income as well as milk for consumption.I currently buy one cup of milk per day(0.2 USD).Owning my own cow will therefore reduce my expenses. My second plan is finishing the construction of my house which is half way done. This includes buying furniture. When the house is done I can proudly host visitors.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I spend my morning hours till 10 am doing the house chores.I then leave for my farm which is my main activity.I work till 12:30 pm then go back again after lunch till 5pm.I feel happy in the morning when I am working in my farm. This is because my output is high.In comparison with the afternoon my out put is low because of the weather.Sometimes it is too sunny making me very exhausted.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My husband is a casual labourer while I am a subsistence farmer. We get very little which is not enough to sustain all our needs. My husband comes home with 3 USD in a day whenever he secures a casual job;sometimes he does not.I cultivate 0.5 acres of land from which I get 2-3 sacks of maize. My biggest worry is securing a good future for my children. As they grow up their needs increase. For example they will need school fees.My first born is three years old.I have two children. My wish is expanding my sources of incoming by supplementing crop farming with livestock farming, poultry farming among others. All these requires capital which I do not have for now.
