How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
I am happy that the goats in my herd have started to increase in number. I currently have an additional four kids raising the number to 16 goats within three months children. With this observation, I have come up with a new goal to sell some to raise capital for starting a business. Generally, a grocery store is one of the most successful business ventures in my community, and I am toward establishing one by the end of the next year. I hope to start seeing an increase in our family's income with the launch of a new business. I am so appreciative of GiveDirectly.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly as a nonprofit organization has mastered the art of good community entry practices. It does well in offering sensitization services and doing door-to-door visitation during enrollment. A situation that helps in ripping off potential imposters. It has therefore built a cordial relationship with us, and we can freely reach out in case we have a concern. In addition, it gives cash that enables us to spend on our areas of need. There is a positive change in the village, new houses have come up, and people's acquisition of assets increased. I have not so far observed what GiveDirectly does not do well.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I am a mother of four children. Two of them are school-going. My husband and I do not have regular jobs thus we always struggle to do casual jobs to keep our family. When I received my recent transfer, I spent $420 on buying 12 goats. I consider it an assured way of building up my savings. In the future, I will be able to sell part of them to support my children's education. In addition, I spent $60 on food, and the rest I used on new clothes for my children. The transfer has improved my life. I did not have any livestock then, but now I own 12 goats. I am so excited and indebted to GiveDirectly for its support.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Receiving a message confirmation of the first transfer from GiveDirectly was the best moment of my life. It was late in the evening as I was heading home from the neighborhood. On checking the phone and confirming the good news, I had to fasten my steps since I needed to share the news with my husband who was back home. He was very excited about receiving the news as we both thanked GiveDirectly for the significant support.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is the successful investment in the livestock after buying 13goats that I Intent to breed for future sale. This has given me hope of timely payment of school fees for my children.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Before receiving the first transfer, we had a discussion with my husband to strategize the use of the entire amount. The list we had created was clear and was glad that we could not make a lot of alterations except adjusting the cost of some items. The first KES 30000 I spent was on 13 goats that we are currently rearing. I hope to breed them and sell the offspring in the future to support my children in school. I also paid KES 10000 for my two children's tuition fees, and obtain some construction materials worth KES 3000 that I will use in renovating my old house. In addition, I spent the remaining amount on buying foodstuff for my family of six.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means that I can build a better house for my family. The current house which is made of mud walls and weak supporters is not in a good condition. The walls are falling off an the roof is weak. A one bedroom brick house will cost me around 35,000 KES. My second plan is investing in goat farming. I would love to start with 10 young goats costing between 2,000 KES to 3,000 KES. This is something that I can do well because I have time to look after them.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am so happy that I gave birth to my fourth child four months ago. She is healthy and growing up very well. This is what has brought me happiness in my life.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Farming is what I depend on to get income but the rains have been a let down. The frequent drought in this area has made it hard to get income. During rainy seasons, casual jobs are readily available and food is available in plenty. I even get surplus to take to the market. My farm is now dry. It's been over 2 years since I benefited from my farm.
