How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
In the past, I did not have adequate resources to built my own house, I have a wife and two children but I had no house. I am now happy to say that I am fully settled with stable income and happy family. GiveDirectly has totally changed my socioeconomic life.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Generally, I may like to say that GiveDirectly has got a very unique system of conducting it's program that observes the equality when it comes to resource allocation. People have executed various economic activities in accordance to their needs. The children have been taken to school, livestock bought, both for milk and for sell, decent houses built, and bride price paid. Some have opened up businesses. On the other hands, the organization should incorporate those who have got responsibilities but don't have a house. For example, a divorced woman who have gone back to live with her parents, but staying in the same house and have children to take care of.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I used my second transfer as a capital to start business. I opted for that to be the alternative source of income since the usual family income was not enough to meet our needs. After conducting business survey, I discovered that fish business is doing good at this dry season when the vegetable which normally used as a fordable meal, is scarce and demand for fish is high. Since I started this business, I can testify that it gives me good result. I also leased a piece of land on which I planted sugarcane. Our region falls within sugar belt and sugarcane is one of the commercial crops in the area. I believe that it will enable me to get good return after one year.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money makes me so happy. I will use it for farming sugarcane. I have a very fertile land but due to lack of capital , I have been unable to buy seeds and fertilizers so as to farm on that land.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the evening when my family members are all back and we are having dinner together.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship I face is lack of a stable job. I am a casual worker and these jobs are never guaranteed. I get paid so little which is not enough to take care of my family needs like food and clothing.
