How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
The cash transfers have changed my life in that I built a house and acquired household items such as bedding, clothes, utensils. I am now a respected person in the community because I have improved my living standards. Before I received the cash transfers, I had old utensils and poor bedding in my house. I was miserable and desperate because the casual work could not generate enough income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well to send the poor people unconditional cash transfers. Secondly, GiveDirectly castigates any involvement in fraud or bribery through massive sensitization of the people.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second cash transfer to purchase a water drum and three livestock. I also hired a piece of farm land.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest change in my life is I no long have to buy grass for thatching the house because I have built a iron roofed house. I have also managed to take my children to school since I did not have enough money to pay their fees.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
I became so happy when I saw the Mobile money message at around 2 am in the morning. I ululated, dance and I never went back to sleep because I was imagining how going to build a Iron roofed house and therefore no more suffering looking for grass.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I have been sleeping in a grass thatched dilapidated house that was crumbling and no grass for maintenance since there is grass nowadays. When got this money, I thought it wise to build a house so that I will never suffer looking for grass. I used UGX 1400000 for purchasing materials and paying labor. After building the house there was need for a bed and mattress since the one I was using was too old so I decided to buy new ones and I spent UGX 200000. The remaining money UGX 100000 I paid school fees for the children.
